First trip in our brand new AS. Stopped in a service plaza along I80 near Cleveland late yesterday only to discover a shattered side window. The window was never opened by us because we have only owned the trailer for a few days. Any ideas on how this may have happened?
Is it a repair I can do myself if they Fed Ex me a new window?
Ours arrived with a broken side window, due to the transporter not latching the window. Have heard of one that was shot out with a pellet gun all so. Easy repair, maybe dealer would eat the cost. Btw, we are originally from the thumb, sorry to hear of your problem.
We basically have the same trailer and thankfully have not had any issues with the windows so hopefully yours was a fluke. Looks like the window is installed with accessible blots so replacement should be easily accomplished. I'd call your dealer or the factory to see if they can arrange to send you a replacement.
Meanwhile, duct tape and plastic sheeting are your friend!
I spoke with the dealer. They are overnighting a new window at no charge. The service manger gave me his cell number so he can walk me thru the replacement process. Life is good!
Chances are someone at the dealership left the window unlatched. The latches are adjustable for tightness. When you replace it be sure there is enough tension to hold it snug, but not so much to stress the unit.
We forgot to latch our side window near the Television in our first Airstream. It was sucked out and shattered when a large truck passed us in Seattle and created a vacuum. Like the previous poster said, we used duct tape and a plastic board. Repair was done at our dealer. We now are very careful to check all our windows!
