Rivet back window on '66 safari

ok . . . this is embarrassing, but i ordered a piece of tempered glass for the back of my 66 --- siliconed it into the trim piece and when i got help to put it into the frame, found that i had measured wrong and it was 1/16th to tall up and down (aaaarrrrgggg!) after feeling how heavy the glass is, i am ready to us lexan or reg. plexi.
OK now my question. What is everyones opinion about putting the metal frame around the window . . . it is a 39 inch flat window and the original did not have a frame. will the lexan be rigid enough when i go to open it?
Thanks for any info.

You might see if a glass company would sand down the existing pane. Granted, it seldom works (it usually disintegrates), but you have nothing to lose.

I have wondered the same thing. On my '67 Tradewind I ordered the metal frames to go around my windows that currently don't have any. I'm amazed that with the weight of the windows they don't break or snap up by the hinge, especially when they bounce when open and my 230lbs is walking around the trailer. I was wondering if adding the metal frames will actually make them stronger or just add more weight to the hinge area.

If I remember right, Inland makes a nice frame to go around those windows.
