Awning sash halves spread when apart.

Hi All,
In my continuing effort to rehab the windows on our 1970 Ambassador I have found that the frame halves of the awning window next to the entry door do not form a rectangle without the steel “registration bar” is in place (the halves are just set next to each other in the frame that is riveted to the skin).

The obvious answer is to install a fairly long registration bar on both the top and bottom during reassembly to pull the shape back into the correct alignment, but I am wondering if the sash frame halves can be “encouraged” (bent slightly) back into more of a 90 degree angle, or if that comes with too many risks of its own?

Thanks,
David

Hi All,
Lots of views but no replies. Below are a few pictures that I hope will help.
As you can see, the frames are only slightly out of square.

Thanks,
David

Hi All,
Closing this thread. I ended up cutting longer bar stock for the upper and lower halves, and then I inserted each long piece of bar stock in one side (top and bottom) and then squeezed the other half into more of a 90 degree angle as I put the halves together.

The long bar stock did the trick of helping the frame stay more square when assembled. The sash now rests in the frame on the shell as it should.
