Adding opening window in bathroom
I know it has been discussed, but here goes again. I am considering cutting through the wall and adding a small opening window in bathroom. I would like the same functionality of our other windows in our 2018 27FB Flying Cloud, but would like the window to be smaller. Any helpful information appreciated on methods and parts.
Thank you,
Ron

Hi Ron,
Airstream frames the window openings (see pic) and doing that as a retrofit seems an enormous task. My concern is how to secure the window to prevent movement and by that prevent leaks. I’m interested in what you come up with.

Thank you for responding. I have read some past comments stating it was not a difficult project as long as you stay between ribs. I certainly don’t plan on doing it if it’s more than that. The picture shows where I would put it. I’m thinking it might be smaller than anything Airstream uses, and maybe not available anyway. I would like to hear some others and their experiences if anyone has tackled this.

No experience doing this, although I have a job scheduled to add a second stack of three windows on the curb side of my Winick 75th Anniversary Special Edition. That is a major job.
I have had very mixed results in speaking with Airstream tech support, but I would see what help they might offer. In addition to the obvious questions about the physical installation, ask about wiring and plumbing that may be in that wall.

We added two windows to our fiberglass Casita trailer. We used Motion Windows for our sealed bathroom window, which might be an option for Airstream trailers as Motion Windows can custom create whatever window you desire:
https://www.motionwindows.com/
For our kitchen backsplash, we just purchased the identical window that Casita Travel Trailer used for our Casita trailer bathroom window which is a sliding glazed glass window with a screen.
Obviously, we had an easier project as we only had to address electrical and plumbing and not structural framing. Anyhow, more details and photos on how we accomplished this project and all our many other Casita trailer modifications may be found by Googling our trailer name if interested.

Thank you field and stream and Sunny Falls for your additional comments. Motion Windows looks a great source for a custom window.

OP: Just noticed how close you are to Jackson Center. How about asking Airstream for a quote? You could learn a lot from that, and maybe go that way.

We were just at Ultimate Airstream near Portland, OR and were taken on a tour of several custom mods they were doing for their customers. One was a bathroom remodel where they removed the OEM flip-up mirrored medicine cabinet, built shelves to the left and installed an operable window. I don’t remember the model/size/year of the trailer but thought you might benefit from knowing that it’s doable.
We were there to have the window in the door replaced with clear glass. They mentioned that they would ship glass to customers (not vendors) so they might be a potential window supplier and might also be able to give some insights as to obstacles you might encounter.

Thank you for your comments. All good information. I have removed the large OEM mirror as well and would like to consider this modification.

Don't you have a roof fan?
I'm taking the contrarian view.
I don't want to be parked next to you and hear the sounds of
someone using the bathroom....use your imagination.
