68 corning hinge leak

Hey all,

Working on my ambassador 68 with the corning windows. I have issues with leaks coming from the top hinge. I have a few questions about the "fix" that was described in some of the forums.

Ive read that you can put some sealant in the hinge from the outside, move the window up and down for a while to work the sealant into the hinge and keep the hinge from binding from the sealant.

Has anybody out there tired this method and had success? How long should I do this "opening and closing" action? Also it was said that the sealant should be clear silicone but I've heard that silicone isn't good to use on airstreams. Why use silicone is this case? Also what brand/type of silicone seal should I use, I'm sure there are a lot of options?

Thanks!

While I can't answer the hinge question directly (I have heard something similar) I offer this.

Try looking at Vintage Trailer Gaskets to see all their drawings/diagrams in the library section for your year to make sure you have all the necessary gaskets and seals. Hehr also had some info.

And Vintage Trailer Supply sells the window eyebrows.

After working on our windows this weekend we feel your pain.
