1967 Sovereign - Philips Window Latch Repair

My first post. I need to repair my Philips window latch for my 1967 Sovereign. The thin metal tongue that extends out to grab the wind broke clean off the parts that wrap around the bar. I'm hoping I can just re-weld them back together. Anyone have experience doing this repair? What worked well? What didn't? Is material aluminum or steel?

Once I get the piece back together, I'm not sure if they go above the bar or below.

Thanks, Jim

Welcome to the Forums! Although I can't provide help with your issue, there will someone here who has dealt with that window latch. Happy Streaming!

Jim,

Those "thin metal tongues" are spring steel. I just bought some used Phillips window latches from Trailer parts Airstream

The tongue goes over the bar.

Thanks

I left them a message this morning so hopefully I'll hear back from them soon. I have a local metalsmith working on making some replacements but he's having trouble locating spring steel in the same gauge in small quantities. My trailer is missing a few odds and ends that perhaps they can supply as well.

Much appreciated!

Jim
