1960 Tradewind Window & Frame Replacement

Looking for a replacement window and frame for our 1960 Tradewind Land Yacht. The previous owner took it out and replaced it with a window air conditioner. He thought he had it stashed away but was unable to find it. I've searched for several months now, calling and visiting salvage yards but with no success. We have the latches and cranks but need the window and the frame it sits in. The window measures 29-5/8 x 18-1/8 and has the square rather than rounded corners. We're thinking we can put a stationary or fixed window in but we'd really like to be able to open and close it. We had a window specialist look at it but he didn't feel he could fabricate one.

BTW-this is our first posting. We've really enjoyed reading other forum strings and have found the site very valuable.

Wish I had a bead on a window, but I don't. Just wanted to say that I LOVE your original zolatone! It looks like it's in great shape!

Got any more pictures to share with us?!

Lynetta, I've scrubbed it three times now with Simple Green and the nicotine or cigarette tar has finally stopped oozing out. It's still, however, quite stained. Debating on repainting in similar style with zolatone or going with something different.

Keep it!
I know someone who had to clean cigarette stains off of their Zolatone, too. If you want me to find out what they used, I can ask.

P.S. We drive through Evansville sometimes to go see my grandparents.

theStream,

I agree with Lynetta. It's really tough stuff and should be far easier to clean than replace. Having stripped and sanded Zolatone, I have tremendous respect for how durable it is. Although I can't recommend the magic solvent, I'm sure there is one.

Test patches with small trials in a hidden area might help.

Maybe Goo-gone?

Did you try TSP ? And magic eraser sponges? That's my go to combo

I know a landlord that uses easy off oven leaner to get rid of nicotine , might want to do a test patch of that!

We've gotten off track here but I promise to keep my eyes out for a window!

Did you try this relatively new supplier? Can't vouch for them but it's worth a try!

Shelly, we found the window at the new supplier you referenced and they're shipping it tomorrow. I'll let you how it goes. Thanks for the tip.

When you ordered did you make sure to ask for a Clearview not Hallmark 12?
That is a great source, glad I found this thread.

Glad I could help! Please post back and let us know how it goes, I've never used that company but the website has grown quite a bit from when I first saw it . Used part vendors are important!
