I am thinking about retrofitting a Vista View Window on my 73 Sovereign which was not manufactured with them. It looks fairly straightforward especially if I do not put in an interior sliding blind as it came from the factory. Before I start chopping holes, I would appreciate any advice.
If you are getting them form salvage, try to get ones form an Argosy. They are already single pane and will not have the fogging issues that are prevalent in the thermo pane ones.
From what I have heard you can use the new ones that Airstream is installing on the older trailers. It would also make inner trim easier if you use the new inner trim piece since the original ones had a space for the inner shades.

Marshall,
You are not alone. I am thinking of doing the same thing on my 67. The advantage of a retrofit is that you should not have the leaking issues of windows and seals that are 32 years old. Keep us posted on what you find.
Brett, I never thought about new ones, I may have access to some Vistas that are from a 68. Maybe I will have to check that option out.

Marshall,
I see no reason it cannot be done. I have actually had to replace one of mine on my 75 due to broken glass. The factory still makes them for our vintage units. IIRC they run in the $250 each range. But don't cut the holes until you have your hands on the actual window as the sizes differ. They make 2 different sizes of Vista Views that I am aware of. One is approximately 32" long and the other about 10" shorter. I installed mine with Olympics, but if you have the interior panels out you could use bucked rivets for a factory look.
