Mitigating key damage to panel

Hi! I’m trying to mitigate damage from keys being accidentally left in the hole and the door swinging open and denting the panel.

Has anyone ever put some sort of door stopper or padding on the trailer panel where the door would normally latch to? Yes, this may void the latching mechanism but it would also prevent key damage!

Any ideas or past solutions?

bloody good question and yes i thought of that too!

i have on one occasion left keys in door and failed to damage panel

but yes when im ducking into van i sometimes leqn towards leaving keys in door but dont....

i dont think there is an option for you apart from what we all do

having a door stop mounted to body or door would protrude a lot when closed and may be a source of moisture ingress

food for thought

Besides the obvious scratching of the trailer, I try to avoid leaving keys dangling from the door because I have thought about what a hassle it would be if a key got snapped off in the lock.

Thanks all. I know not to leave keys in the door. I'm trying to consider a solution for guests of the trailer who are not as prudent wherein key accidents are prone to happen.

Door Stop

Is it possible to put a door stop on the hinge? Just like the ones that are used in homes. I'm not familiar with the modern hinge on your rig. But this is what I was thinking of. I saw, there is also rubber bumper that looks like half a baseball. Both of these are available in hardware stores

Do you really expect your guests to be using your key to unlock your trailer?
