Hi there, Boy you don't want much do you ? I have been looking for one for a year. Let all of us Caravel owners know if you find a stash of screen doors. In the interim I have a screen that has velcro sewed around the perimiter that I use in place of an actual screen door. It works, but it sure would be nice to have the door.

Has anybody tried to make a screen door to retrofit an old A/S that did not come with one, like my Bambi II ?
Chris,
Do you have any photos of your velcro screen door that you could share?
Thanks,
Mark

Yes I can take a pic, but I will have to do it later. Short on time at the moment.

Chris,
No hurry,it'll be about a year or two before I'll be needing a screen door.
When I started this project 6 mo. ago, I thought I'd be done by July.
Thanks,
Mark

In 1964, the screen door, was part of the entrance door, sort of like a door within a door.
Your door can be modified to give you the screen door option.
Taking a later model screen door and trying to make it fit, won't make it.
To modify yours takes a couple of special shaped extrusions.
We have those extrusions for use in our shop.

Know where one is....BUT
The BUT is that it's a Katrina loss (tree over rear third) 66 TW I think. The owner allowed me to buy some small parts but is in limbo over what to do with the rest. Just in windows, screen door and regular door they could make their investment back. Lots of good parts, I called them today and they will get back to me - I think there is some personel feelings involved, but this trailer is a total loss. i hope to find out something soon and will post. BTW, for this thread, the screen door is in great shape.

$7100.00, for a 65 Caravel, with an ugly looking exterior, and, a bad axle.
The buyer better do a lot of homework, or have a huge supply of Vicodin.

That screen door looks like a 70s coach door that I recently had to remove and refit to the trailer, problem was the door pins were well worn and has no access to remove them ,so drilled the rivits out on the screen door and then proceded to fix the contour of it .The open square in the middle has or had ,whichever it is ,a sliding plastic cover you could slide shut .But it is
possible then I guess to make one fit from a later model ,the coach I worked
on is an excella.I think 73 ? The screen door frame is thin and as long as the outer door still shuts ,should work.It will take some doing for a good fit and
what for hinges? that will be the the trick to get the right ones.

My solution....
for now is this. Have a large piece of screen hemmed and have velcro sewed on the edges. I put the velcro on the trailer on the inside so it wouldn't interfere with the operation of the door. It'll be a good temporary fix until I figure out something better. It does work pretty well. Here are a couple pics.

Screen Door - 1965 Caravel
A great solution to doorway insect repelling! It would work on our 1965 Caravel with door louvers only. I have also seen a velcroed screen with a center velcroed slit for a different way of entry and egress. Speaking of doors and door locks, anyone know of a resource for our door handle and mechanism (locks with separate deadlock). It was made by Weiser.

Screen doors were not installed in your model.
However, finding a screen door will be much easier than finding the hinge that you will need, for that screen door.

I have a 65 with the louvred window in the door. I obtained a screen door 5 or so yrs ago w/no HINGE!! I could make it work if some kind soul would send me some close-up pictures of a HINGE!! is it cast or is it just bent metal? I have access to a metal shop, but I need pictures! lots of pictures! the door fits the opening! the holes match the area where it should be mounted!!! I would like to do this before I DIE, so I need photos of the actual hinge............thanks,,,,,joe q in minnesnowda
