KT LOCK repair

Ive got a KT lock on a 76 Sovereign that I am working on at the moment. When it comes to the renovations I know what to do myself and Im smart enough to know what not to do. So with that said I need to find someone who knows how to repair the KT lock. This current lock has no tumbler at all so therefore I am totally locked out from the outside. So I leave the front window open and reach my arm into the door handle and open the door. Anyone on here that can rebuild or repair it?
thanks,
Zach

In the past, you could call the parts department at the dealership where I work, and send the lock in. The parts department would give it to me to repair. I'm not sure if they still offer that service, as the last one I did was nearly 6 months ago.

Does the outside handle open the door at all if not have you removed the lock to see if the pins in the handle or the lock shaft are broken off. I have rebuilt my two and sold a few that I rebuilt to other owners. Pics might help find a issue.

Interesting. Mine could use a little TLC as well. Went to the dealer in NJ not too long ago and was to get a whole new latch assembly.

Care to name-drop the dealer who sends rehab work your way?

For sure the tumbler is missing. The latch outside does not open the door, in fact opening the latch does not even move the strike pin ( I guess that’s what it’s called). It appears to possibly have a few other parts missing. I wish there were a YouTube video because then I could easily follow that. But just a picture of parts that appears upside down to me is kinda confusing. And working with small springs and things isn’t my forte. Thanks for any help

Do you have the lock removed from the door, if so when you lift the handle does the shaft move with the handle, if not the pins are broken off. If it is out see if the ear (tear drop piece on the side) of the shaft moves when you raise the handle.

Here’s a few pics, maybe this will help. The outside handle kind of works to open the door. If you’re lucky.

Here are three pics of my lock. It looks like your spring has broke on the handle shaft that fits on the tear drop looking piece on the end of the shaft. Check your roll pins that are in the pic to ensure they are ok. This is one I rebuilt after having it inspected and chromed.

I have a 1971 Tradewind with a KT lock without a key. I would love to have it refurbished and be able to use the lock. It appears to work otherwise. Any chance I can make arrangements for you to do the work?
Thanks,
Bill

Zcashio, it looks like your spring in pic #3 is not in the correct place it should clip behind the lever that has the rod that goes thru the outside handle, one of my pics shows where it goes.

Blues Bill, do you have any pics of your lock. Is your lock tumbler missing or just no key. The tumblers are no longer available. I figured out over time Airstream used the same key a lot over the years. Send some pics to me by PM if you can.

Are you just missing the key. Does everything else work, handle opens the door etc. Locksmiths can make a key if that is all you need. Take the lock out and take it to someone it will be cheaper if a key is all you need, let me know

Yea I’m not too sure exactly what I need. It appears some pieces are a bit “worn” out. I am not in a great area that has a “dealership” near. I live in AR. I wonder if I could ship the lock to a dealership and have it rebuilt. Anyone know?

Any chance you have a picture or two of the tumbler? I found that the back of the tumbler is missing everything past the hole inn the lock housing. it took about 15 minutes to convince the tumbler to let loose. Corrosion was all that was keeping it in the base.

Here is a pic of the back side of the lock, missing a small piece on the edge shows the springs lock pins and the tip that operates the slide, hope it helps.
