Keys, anyone?

I just purchased my first Airstream. A 1965 22' Safari. It is the first trailer I have ever set foot inside, but for 10 years I have talked about buying one to refurbish, once I retire... which I hope to do in 4 years..... Maybe I can have it finished by then, or let's say, "started." I know absolutely NOTHING about travel trailers. To begin with, it has no keys. Do you just have to go to a locksmith, or are there places you can purchase keys if you have the model or serial numbers? Like cars, maybe?

Welcome from the Florida Panhandle

Welcome to the Forums. We're glad to have you with us.

Take the lock out and bring it to a locksmith.

with the exception of the door, most all airstream keys will unlock most others compartments. Your potable water key will unlock every travel trailers water cover. There are several keys for the door but if you go to a rally someone there will have your door key, borrow it and have one made.

Congratulations on your the purchase of your 65 Safari!

I agree, take the lock out and go to a locksmith with it. Not sure how you would resolve the challenge otherwise.

If you need a new lock/knob etc....they are easy to come by.

My 1964 Bambi II compartment door keys fit my friends 65 Safari. He was fortunate to have the door keys. I loaned him my keys and he had copies made.

keys

Hi- congrats! I had excellent luck getting the key to my water-intake door from OasisRV, in Tucson. Give them a try if you don't succeed locally.

We have most of the Airstream keys on-line. For the main door you will have to take that to a locksmith.

Hi all,
For what it's worth, I recently went through this same scenario, I called A/S parts and a gal named Sara gave me a part number 001101 and advised me to contact an A/S dealer. Sure enough I bought two and they worked. Oh yeah, these were for the storage compartments.
Now I need to find the Potable water key.

Thanks

Thanks for the information, are the key blanks available at any locksmith or through A/S?
