Key will not lock door!!!

I own a 1980 Caravelle and replaced the handle, but now the key will Not lock the door! I've taken it apart and it seams the tumbler needs to be replaced or the plate that locks the door is worn too big!! I made sure the spring below the plate is still there--so I don't think any parts are missing! Help

Any luck with fixing your lock? I'm looking for a broken lock that I can use for parts.

Thanks,
Brian

Repairing a worn out lock with worn out parts, is not a good idea.

You can bet on where it will fail again.

Replace the entire lock with a new style lock kit, and then you can forget about the issue for probably another 25 years or more.

Until you can replace the unit, I suspect if you study the back side you'll find that the old tumbler might wobble up and down, enough that the little knob on the end doesn't do it's job of moving the locking slide enough (about a 1/16"). I found a piece of 1/2" copper pipe fits over the tumbler, and cut square to the right length it will hold the tumbler in position to do it's job. The heavier duty copper seemed to be the diameter.

Found a replacement(new) lock cylinder and it works Great! No way would I buy the replacement handle. It looks like a redneck replacement part--someone should make the part to the exact size! Thanks for all the help!

When I got our trailer PO had no keys. Took the handle to a local locksmith they took it apart cleaned and made a set of keys. Did not cost much ether.
