Help with lock please?
I have a 1966 Safari and just bought a new Bargman lock. I installed it without problems and it locked for the first few tries and then just quit.
Any advice from anyone would be appreciated?
I wonder if there is some little quirky thing that I should have done during installation?
Frustrating....

That sounds really frustrating. What lock set did you use as a replacement? One of these or something similar?

Exactly the same thing
I just put in a Bargman 200, from Vintage Trailer Supply, and it worked a little stiff the first week. Then nothing. I had a lock shop put it in while getting extra key made for entire trailer. I will take it back there this week....then discuss with Vintage. Not a happy camper
AND..........on another note, does anyone have a source for a small deadbolt, key type not needed. I want it for the safety lock on the 69 Caravel.

Beats me, I've been looking for one of those for a year. Inland, VTS and Airstream all do not have a suggestion on what to do. Is yours missing or broken? Mine, the bolt came out. I'm trying to decide if it is someting I just want to repair. If you find a replacement, PLEASE let us (me) know.\
As for the Bargman, is it possible you have locked it from the inside? When you pull up on the door lever, it locks it. Eh, probably not. BTW, don't pile on VTS too much yet, he's ALWAYS taken care of his customers. I'm sure he'll get you fixed up.

It's this one....I have tried just about everything I can think of and it won't lock at all with the key. It will lock by a half twis of the round knob from inside the coach. We are leaving Friday and I have no way of locking things up

I took Steph's advice and made up one of these...I know it's not a solution to security but it gives me a piece of mind when traveling and has worked perfectly.

Try loosening the two screws that clamp the assembly against the door. It won't need much, maybe a half turn of the screwdriver.

Thanks so much for all of your wonderful responses to my lock dilemma!!!
I will try the screw loosening this evening. I also like the doohickey that attaches to the handle. Interesting!

ok....figured it out. I took the lock back out of the door and oiled everything and fiddled with the handle that goes inside the trailer to see what happens when it is twisted to the lock position. There is a small piece of metal that moves into place to engage the lock. Once I saw that working, I was able to see exactly how the handle should be put together and installed into the door. It's working fine now.....a little stiff, but working.
