Having entrance keys made?

I need to have an entrance key made for my 2006 Classic.
I seem to remember there was a thread about this issue, but I have been
unable to locate it with a search. I tried having the key made at the hardware store and it didn't work. Can anyone give me a hand in locating
that thread or if you have the answer it would be appreciated.

Thanks
Pappy

Hi Pappy,

Some dealers (like Airstream of Arkansas) carry the blanks and you can get them there. They gave me some when I picked up our '08.

The local Ace Hardware cut the blanks for free and they work perfectly.

With my '04 the dealer (Bill Thomas) didn't carry them and had to order them from the factory for me. They sent them by mail once they got them.

Cosmotini,

I was hoping to avoid the route of ordering blanks from Airstream.

Oh well.

Thanks

Hi, I was told that lock shops can't make these keys; And I was out to prove this to be wrong. I went to the best lock shop in my area and asked for two of each keys to be made. They were able to make , for me, two dead bolt keys that work perfectly, but did not have the blanks to make the main lock keys. I still need blanks or I can order the keys from the latch factory for $15.00 plus $10.00 shipping. Call me hard headed, but I don't want to pay $25.00 for two keys.

I went to Ace hardware and they had blanks that worked. They cut the keys and I had no problems with the doors. I inadvertantly threw away my entire key set into the trash and had to have all locks redone. Boy was that a treat. My wife made me make complete duplicate sets for safe storage just in case I forgot how much fun that was and did it again .

you might try an RV store or a locksmith close to a large RV park to find those blanks. it there a key code nuber on the key? maybe a different dealer could do it by mail?

I'm curious about why you don't want to order the blanks from Airstream. When I visited the factory this summer I picked up two extra sets of blanks for my '06 and the cost wasn't much at all. Is the shipping cost out of line? Or is it too slow?

dougjamie,
I was just looking for the quickest way and like you said avoiding shipping charges which now days usually exceeds the cost of the product. Since
healthchic supplied the Y13 yale lock blank information no reason to order
through the mail. Thanks healthchic.
