Exterior Door Handle Floppy Loose
Hi,
2019 FC 25 FB.
I just noticed my exterior door handle is kinda floppy. Moves in and out with door firmly closed.
I've done the mod where I screwed in the interior door handle and NEVER pull on it. Cut the notch to be able to escape if locked inside. But this is outside issue.
Any clues what this may be? Interior screws are all tight. I'll take apart tomorrow as it's dark now.
Come to think of it the key had been struggling a little the past couple days too

Sounds like the spring that returns the handle back to zero is broken

Is there some sort of diagram or parts lists that tells me size and shape of spring so I can get one and don't have tear apart twice?
Thanks!

Were you able to resolve this? The door handle on my 2018 FC23CB has the same issue. Any info on diagrams or parts would be appreciated!

This is sounding like a trend. Recent issue for us on our 2019 25RBT.

I’m in Michigan and will be traveling through Grand Rapids. This is where the Woodland Airstream outfit is located. They are a big player in Airstream parts. I’ll see if I can get some info from their parts people. I have a hunch the complete outside lock assembly will have to be replaced. That will be this Friday. I’ll post what information I obtained.

Stopped into Woodland Airstream today. The parts man I spoke with was 95% sure the problem is a broken tension spring on the lock assembly. Very accessible and would be an easy fix, but the problem is, that spring is not listed as a part you can order. So, you either purchase the whole lock assembly or try and find that particular spring. I’m going to try and find the spring but will not be attacking that until I return home from our trip in late October. He said it’s not damaging anything using it without the spring. I’ll post if I track down the right part. Parts man said they were trying to resolve this problem. He agreed it wasn’t fair not to offer the part. That’s all for now.

I am back home now and when I opened up the door latch I found the broken spring. It is 2” long and about 3/16” diameter. I was able to bend the end and reinstall it (see photos). I am still looking for a spring but meanwhile, I thought this information might be helpful.

My spring broke the same way. I also bent a new hook. I'm sure it won't last long.
