Any -
We got the requested fix in the mail and installed it - so far it seems to be doing the trick - THANKS!
I should also add that we called the lock company and got two additional sets of keys and will keep them outside of out trailer just in case!
Thanks again - it took all of 10 minutes to install and only involved removing and re-tightening two screws.

We just picked up our 2008 last week. Was this an official Airstream fix - in other words would the dealer have already installed this fix?
Can I check to see if its been done before I send you an SASE?
Thanks, Kathy

Kathy.
That fix, is "our fix" not Airstreams.
Airstream was asked "what does an owner do, when they slam the door and the lock engages."
They replied, Tell them not to slam the door !!
Therefore, we came up with a fix, to solve the problem.
Don't call us, just send a SASE and we will send the kit to you at no charge.
Takes maybe 5 minutes, but if you have a beer while doing it, it might take 10 minutes.
Many owners have already made the fix.

I'll get back with you on the fix after I do it. Ive had a heck of a time with that latch so far.

That's odd that they should give that answer since they tell you both at the factory and through the dealers that the best way to close the door is to slam it to be sure it closes completely! They don't recommend pushing on the door until the latch catches - they say it is designed to be slammed!
Thanks again for the fix Andy!

That comment may be odd, or even for that matter, but it was said to me, in person, as I sat on the other side of the desk of the person that said it.
It might have been intended in humor, but I did not take it that way.
I, like others, if I choose to slam the door, shouldn't have to see if I have a spare set of keys in my pocket, before I do it.
We are recording the number of "kit" requests we receive.
I will personally present that information to Larry Huttle. Once he becomes involved, the fix of whatever the problem might be, is usually around the corner.

Greetings.
I just did the fix on my 04 19' ccd this AM. The haedest part was trying to loosen the three screws on the interior latch plate. They were tightened by Thor's hammer!!!
After getting the interior handle/plate off, I placed the nylon washer on the post and the felt washer, untrimmed. I decided that trimming about 3/32 off the felt seemed better. Retightrening the three phillips screws adds more friction.
Getting the crews tigtened was easier than loosening.
Thanks Andy.

Andy and All...
I received the door lock fix today and installed it this evening on our 2006 19' Bambi... I used both the felt and the nylon washers, and it seems to be working well. The hardest part was getting the handle latch aligned with the lock mechanism at reassemble... Besides the lock lever not being as loose and less likely of get jarred into the "lock" position, the only difference I can tell is that when locking the lock from the outside is doesn't click as it used to...from the felt padding, I presume....it's a softer lock... Works great!
Thank you!

Ahem.... I never 'SLAMMED' my door...and was locked out about 4 times!
Just wanted to make that clear on MY end!
Airstream...if they didn't clear the problem up on their end ... it will remain a problem!
Thanks to Andy ... I too have my 'fix'...I need to get it installed next time I'm at the Bambi.

Andy thanks for the fix.
I'll send you soon a SASE.
Reading the Airstream answer just kill me... another way to say that they don't give a s...
Your offer is really nice and I think you shouldn't have to handle the cost of the fix.

Lock out kit
Keep those SASE coming, folks.
We have plenty of the "fix" kits available, all at "no charge."
So far, the reports suggest a 100 percent happy fix, and not a single person was unhappy.

Wife and I are the proud owners of a new to Us 1977 27ft Overlander as of 10/14/07. I'm assuming we have the same problem or will have at some point, the same thing happen that everyone else is experencing. We have had 3 new sets of keys made and a door key on each person and a set in the TV so we dont get locked out.Andy I only have one handle on the inside of the door and no way to lock the door(that i can see) from the inside. Are there pics any where of the interior of the door? I dont know whats supposed to be there.
Im a little busy getting this thing ready for winter,I know its gonna sneek up and bite me,so Im double checking what the PO has done as too WINTERIZING.
Andy, I will get U out an SASE ASAP Thank YOU so much in advance.

Andy DISREGARD
Our dead bolt mechinisim it different .I think .It slides up/down vertically not horzontially so it should not be subject to the DOOR SLAMING SCYNDROME. The inside lock handle was missing, I went thru the hole and turned the pin with a sharp AWL and found where it screwed in. I found a 8-32 machine cap screw in my Tool makers box and put blue lock tight on it and screwed it in. Its just long enough We can get hold of it,but not long enough to get in the way.
Sorry ANDY I'll try not to cry WOLF again before I investigate thourughly.
Please keep that wealth of knowledge comming. We all apreciated it
Roger

not guilty!
I am sooooo happy to find this thread! My daughter has gotten in so much trouble for locking us out of the trailer, at least twice. She will be thrilled and vindicated that she was not to blame (as she claimed) for locking us out after all. I will be in touch Andy, ASAP and thank you!!
