Thanks, Brian!
Here's Garrett riveting the door in place this morning. He's going to have o be creative on the belt line as the door lock seems a little high...he's been very creative so far - he's thinking of cutting enough out of it to have a continous line with the original and fit over the lock flat. Will send pics when possible.

That looks great, Steve. Did you opt for the new door to be front hinged or was that the only way that they could do it? Also, was the window in the door an option?

Thanks.
I opted for this though I knew I wouldn't be able to have the door catch you have with your main entrance to lock the door in an open position due to the stone guards. But I didn't want it to have the chance to accidentally open while driving, catch wind and damage the trailer. Since it's just for emergencies, I went with it as a compromise. If I decide I want to prop it open for a breeze or to load the bikes I'll figure out something with a bungy cord or some other device.
Window came with it - it's your standard door including the screen door. I'll have more pics tomorrow.
I'm telling Airstream when they decide to include this as standard equipment, I want a 30% royalty 😀

Any reason you chose the street side vs the curb side? On the curb it would allow you to back into shorter sites and make use of the front door.

Great question. To be honest, no - I didn't think about it at all. I went street side because that's where the exit window was. 😀

Will there be a set of steps installed for the new door?

Installing steps might invite the emergency for which the door is intended?
On a more serious note, steps seem like overkill on this project IMO. KISS and get on the road again, right?

Really nice modification to your Airstream Steve. Maybe I should just walk across the lobby here at Jackson Center and tell you that in person.

There is a window on the curb side. I know its too late but having the door on the curb side would allow you to use both doors from the campsite and would probably be more marketable for sale if you ever decided to sell.

Hey Brian and others - no steps. KISS is right. If needed to load bikes, I have a 2-step stool that will work well. If needed for an actual emergency, it's a very simple hop down to the ground (much simpler than trying to get out of the window).
Doug 😂- so fun to meet you and Cheryl live! Same with FireDog - just so cool to connect in person after so many exchanges in the Forums!
They're finishing trim, belt line, etc today and should be done so I'll post some final pics when finished.
I think the only difference I'd recommend is to have it open the other way (toward the rear of the trailer, despite the chance for the door opening while driving) so the latch to keep it open can be installed. It can't be done the way I have it because of the stone guard. For emergency only, it's perfect, but thinking about the opportunity to use it also for:
- cross breeze
- loading bikes
- quickly entry from outdoor shower
- quick access to utilities on the street side of the trailer
- probably some things I haven't thought of yet....
having the ability to keep it open would be a benefit. So I'll think about Macguyvering something - feel free to make suggestions here - I'd welcome them!

Yes - that's a good point. I just had visions of telling Garrett we're going to flip it to curbside 😂
Thinking about it since you asked, I actually like it on street side (see prior response for details) and don't think I'd like it on curb side. But I can see the benefit of both. At the end of the day, in a 16' trailer, a single door exit is probably sufficient. For me, in a 27' trailer, I just thought a second full exit on the other end of the trailer was critical. It could be equally effective on either side.
Resale would be good for folks to consider. My goal is to haul it 'til they haul me out and pass it on to my godchild.
And I'm going to suggest that being the first to have this done by the factory increases the value by a Pendelton 😂😂😂
(That's a joke now...no flames, please and thank you!)

Hi, some SOB's have a gas strut to hold the door open; This is something that I also have been thinking about doing. I like the idea of having my door stay open at 90 degrees with the option to disconnect the strut for a full open position.

Not on the road to KISS, but another awning over the new door would increase the "cross breeze" benefit substantially, even in the rain. Without the awning, this will still be a huge benefit IMO, especially if the street side happens to be the shady side of the campsite.

More pics tonight or tomorrow. He's doing the pinstripes and badge now.

Does this mean that you now own liability too?
Can't wait to see this in person Steve!
