Door hinge lubricant

I sprayed silicone on the exterior door hinges of my 79 Sovereign - yikes, what a mistake! Now it creaks & groans loud enough to wake the dead. Anybody got an idea of what I should have used? Do I need to take the hinges apart and clean this stuff off? I"ll appreciate any sage advice. I searched the forums (and my service manual) but couldn't find any info.

Thanks,
Patrick

Patrick,
I have found silicone to be a poor long term lubricant for most applications. Use a good white litium spray lubricant for the door hinges. I don't think you need to take the hinges apart to clean the silicone off.

I use WD-40. It works on a lot of things to stop squeaks and so forth.
