door handle

We own a 1971 International Overlander and the exterior door handle broke. Any suggestions for a replacement?

How is it broke?

My door handle latch evidently had been broken in the past and someone (previous owner?) had it welded back together. Works OK now.

door handle

The handle is flat and it broke where the pin goes through it. The part that wraps around the pin broke off.

Cool Hope this helps

Here is a parts breakdown of that particular lock. You might try checking with Oasis RV . I was able to get parts for my lock in the past.

They apparently changed the lock design in '78. When mine broke, I went to the Airstream dealer in Fredericksburg VA and he quoted me a price of $125 for the kit to fix it. He said and I quote:"be glad you don't have a '77. The replacement kit is over $500".

Does anyone know of a repository for expired Airstreams that our friend might contact to get used parts?

BTW, my problem was the ears on the bolt subassembly were broken off and a friend brazed new ears on and it works fine.

Good Luck

Yep. That is what I found out when I researched to repair my door lock on my '71. What I was told is the replacements are handmade. The parts breakdown I gave in my earlier post shows the lock used from 1970 - 1977. So you are very lucky!

Again, see my earlier post. Oasis RV had the parts I needed available and knew what I was talking about when I asked for it. Not cheap mind you but I got what I needed to fix my lock and a new lock cyclinder with keys. One of the easier jobs I had to tackle

Thank you for all of your suggestions. Welding sounds better all of the time.
