door bell

We have a 1990 29' Excella we are reworking. Has anyone managed to replace the door bell button in the handle? Ours is broken off and we can't figure out how to take it apart. It is integral to the large handle/door lock which apparently can not be removed either! Any ideas?

As soon as I posted the question, we looked at the door bell again. We finally realized the obvious - it just pulls out! Now we just have to find a way to retrieve the wire that broke off from water damage when the bell cover broke off.
