Dead bolt lock not locking

We have a brand new 2016 International. We seem to have a problem with the deadbolt lock. We cannot lock the deadbolt from the inside and have trouble locking it from the outside without putting a lot of pressure on the door. Has anyone else had this problem? Is this an easy fix or do we need to drive 3 hours to the dealership to have it fixed?

If the door is fitting fine you can file the hole in the door towards the inside a bit. That will lessen the need to push on the door to lock it.

Before making any adjustments to the dead bolt in the form of filing the hole bigger make sure the door itself is fitting properly.

Your trailer should be under warranty but then again I would be sure the dealer you got it from has decent reviews on service before going there.

If your coach is really really new, it may just be the gasket around the door isn't compressed that much yet.

This may get easier with a little time. I certainly wouldn't "adjust" anything until the gasket compressed some.......

Yes, we had the problem. Plan a weekend camping trip and include the a dealer service appointment. If your dealer is not a recommended service group, go to one that is. Until you get it fixed, be gentle. Pat

I have the same problem with the dead bolt lock on my 2012 FC 23'. I have to insert the key, close the door, twist key in direction of locking(left), back to middle, then open the door and close with a mild SLAM, then lock it. It's a pain, but the initial turn seems to align things up so it will lock. Try it but don't slam in lock position. Good luck!

Yes, had same problem with 2016FC. Back to dealer - door not aligned. Have had quite a few problems with this new trailer. Surprised!

Where you place any jack stands or how hard you crank on the stabilizers could have an effect on the bolt if it's a tight fit into hole.

Check if the extended bolt is slightly bent. This can happen if someone has tried to shut the door while the bolt was extended. (Ask me how I know). I rebent it slightly with pliers and it works fine now.

I had the same issue with my 2016 19ft flying cloud.
Colonial airstream replaced the deadbolt and life is good.
But not all of you are fortunate enought to do business with colonial.
They are the best
