Dead Bolt Lock

The dead bolt lock on our 2023 Caravel 22FB will not lock from the inside or outside when the door is closed. When the door is open, the dead bolt functions correctly. (Inside and outside) When the door is closed, the key only turns about halfway. The same “halfway” movement when trying to lock the deadbolt from inside the trailer. Seems like the lock is not lining up. Worked fine until this weekend. The trailer is level and door is closed correctly. Thoughts?

Caravel22FB3, we had a similar situation where you had to push on the door to turn the deadbolt.

The bolt part that extends is likely bent out of the correct position and can be straightened.

Try this: With the door open, extend the deadbolt. Looking straight on to the extended bolt, see if it’s straight or bent one way or the other. If it was extended and someone attempted to close the door, it would be bent towards the outside.

You can take a Vicegrip or crescent wrench and bend it slightly in the opposite direction. This is how our dealer fixed ours.

If you’re not sure which direction it needs to go, apply an oil crayon or even lipstick to the end of the bolt, close the door and rotate it several times to make a mark on the pocket side of the door frame. Bend the bolt in the opposite direction.

Hope that helps!

Do you have your stabilizers down? Ive heard if you get too aggressive with the stabilizers, they can twist the frame.

I fixed a similar problem with the deadbolt on our 2017 Airstream by fiddling with the big, thumb-sized bolt (for lack of a better term) that the door latches to.

The bolt had gotten loose. I simply tightened it up and the door began working well again.
