Dead Bolt Key Worn But....

Hi,

SO the original brass key is worn pretty good but still locks and unlocks the deadbolt BUT it can unlock it without being fully inserted. In fact I have to fiddle with it to make sure it's locked or it could spin/unlock with a screw driver.

The unused original spare is more snappy and when using it it doesn't behave this way. I lock it and it's locked!

Why would a worn key do this? You'd figure it'd not work at all.....

Removed, cleaned and lubed the lock and worked the newer key numerous times to perhaps loosen a tumbler. I thought maybe there's only one tumbler actually locking allowing a worn key to work.

Not comfortable as-is. Not sure if I should replace the lock or perhaps it's under warranty still (2019 FC bought in 2020).

Would this be an Airstream part? Or perhaps I can find the brand and buy cheaper elsewhere if need be?

Thanks!

Trav

Might be warranty. Check with dealer, either way they will need to order the part for you assuming you want to stay OEM. They may just replace the key for you?

I’m not sure what kind of aftermarket options exist.

If your key is worn, make a copy of the spare and get rid of the worn one.
