Chesler T-5 Lock

Hello all,
I have a '66 safari with this lockset. No keys, and even locksmith couldn't help as they couldn't remove the cylinder to rekey. Anybody have experience taking the cylinder out of these and could give me direction on how to accomplish? Thanks so much for any and all help. Greg

Do you currently have your lock apart. I have a Chesler T5 that was in a box when I got it, Trying to figure out if anything is missing and how it goes back together. I have a new lock with key that came with it and one lock that the key wan't turn the lock. If I can see where parts go I can see how the lock is installed and how it comes out and try to help you out if I can see some pics. I tried sending you a private message earlier.

I partially disassembled, but so many little parts I didn't dare continue as know I'd never get back together right. Even partially disassembled, took me quite awhile to get back together and functional again. Not even sure what I did differently to get it working again?

Find a better locksmith. I good one doesn't need to remove the cylinder to make a key. They can find a blank that fits the lock, insert it, try to turn it (which marks the blank, the remove and file the key slightly according to the marks, and repeat until you have a key. Then they can remove the cylinder and do what ever you want at that point. I've had this done several times for locks that I didn't have a key for.

Thanks again everybody, my new locksmith was able to make me two keys! Can't remember for sure what he said (since I didn't write it down), but said the key cylinder was same as a 1938-1942 Chevy or Ford. So, for what it's worth if your local locksmith has some of these old key blanks hanging around, maybe they will work for your Chesler locks? Thanks again! Greg
