Can anyone tell me what this protects?

Hi there,

We had our trailer in for hail repairs over the winter and after picking it up, we discovered this rubber cover hadn't been reinstalled - wherever it's supposed to go.

I know I remember seeing it somewhere before, but can anyone point me to where it should be reinstalled?

Dion

I think it goes over the end of the metal strip inside the RV where you enter.

Mystery Vinyl Piece

Yes, it's the 'cap' off of an end of the angled, threshold strip. Mine was nearly impossible to get back on without drilling the rivets and reinstalling it; in fact, they seem to creep off over time.
I guess we're too hard on our strip as it's gotten loose several times over the years. Finally put it back on with two additional pop rivets where it's stayed.

As for the little caps, we put these in the tool box for re-installation next time (if) the strip gets loose.

Agreed! Ours came off as well. We squirted a little silicone inside, pushed it back on the threshold strip and there it has stayed. Kind of odd that this piece comes off. It is out of the way of the foot traffic.

Mine came off too. The problem is it's just about impossible to reattach without first removing the door trim piece it caps.
If you sweep or vacuum, it's way too easy to knock it off. And it doesn't prevent dirt from going under the wedge. The easy solution is to cut off one end so it slips back on without lifting off the floor, or replace the aluminum strip with a nice wood trim piece, solid.
