Broken Inside Door Latch Handle
I have received several emails requesting pictures of a repair that I made on the broken handle for the inside door latch on my 88 Excella. Pictures of the broken handle are shown on the first post of this thread. The repair was simple to make. I used part of a handle from a water valve I purchased at a local Habitat for Humanity restore for $1. Any flat metal scrap metal will work just as well. Screw #1 is drill and tapped thru the remaining part of the original handle and into the 1/4" square steel shaft that rotates the dead bolt of the latch. This screw provides the turning force to open and close the latch. Screw #2 is added to prevent the new handle from spinning in place and is only drilled and threaded into the remaining "round" portion of the original handle. Both screws are SS, size #4 x 40 even though the heads of the screws are different sizes. Screws were used because you still need access to the inside of the lock mechanism for assembly and any future repair.
