'69 Door Latch Mystery

This is my first of what I am certain will be many posts...We have acquired a 69 Tradewind and are totally overwhelmed. The first thing we want to do before bringing it down the street to storage is to lock the door.

My husband just took the unique-looking latch off of the trailer and it says: Airstream 00400 on the underside. Also, it looks like it may not have been original to our trailer? We've seen other knobs and levers for this era but not the latch. Any takers to help solve our mystery latch situation??

Looks like the obsolete lock. There is a retrofit kit for this lock. Check out
Airstream Innovations at Inland RV Center, Inc. (951) 734-8130

Best of luck to you. I have been going through the door lock saga lately, as well.

Thanks. I think we might need to take inventory of everything we need to order week 1...Yikes!

Thanks again.

Are you replacing it due to no keys or is it broken? A good locksmith can rekey that for you. Andy's a great source if you have to replace it. Don't be overwhelmed, you have a great trailer I'm sure (our favorite year) and there are tons of years of experience from people to help you.

Goransons, just sent an email your way with photos. The lock is broke. The pin that activates the lever is broken.

door latch

I too am looking for what appears to be the same latch. Did you get a new one ( how did it work) and do you still have the old one. Someone tried to break into my trailer and broke the trim piece, and i am tring to find one.

If you just need a part for the lock - or the whole thing - you can get it here.

That lock was used for many years and it can be rebuilt. I would contact "Bill Jabocs" who is a past prez of the WDCU. At the last couple of rallies, Bill has a box of different springs and pins that will rebuild the lock for you. You can find his contact info on the WDCU website or put a post out to "Hunters Airstream" list on yahoo asking Bill for information, I think Bill watches that list.

From what I understand, Bill will be at the "East Coast VAC Rally" later this month, he should have the parts with him at that rally.

Looks like our lock

That is the same lock on our Argosy. It still works fine so we will live with it for a while.
