'59 Door replacement or upgrade?
hi all!
i've been thinking about replacing (or rebuilding) the door on my '59 traveller with a style similar to the hatch door they used in the mid 60's, and was wondering if anyone has upgraded their door to a newer model. the hatch door on mine is really flimsy. a friend of mine has a mid-60s overlander with a hatch door that is built differently than mine, and hence MUCH sturdier. the outter door skin is made of one piece of aluminum, rather than 4 riveted pieces as is mine. also, the inner hatch closes flush with the door, rather than sticking out. my door inner hatch has about a 1/4 lip on it. and FINALLY, when you close the newer door, it has plastic catches for the latches that keep it REALLY snug up against the body. if these doors are at all interchangeable, is there a source to get them? (i'm afraid to ask what they would cost!)
i've already convinced myself that i'll be totally rebuilding the door, with a window in the hatch part, BUT i want to make sure i end up with a tighter fitting door than what's on it at the moment. when i towed it home, the door was so flimsy, it actually pulls away from the body at the bottom.
any info or advice would be greatly appreciated!
