1969 Sovereign 31'

Need to talk to someone who has the same trailer Door Lock for front door. The one in our trailer is like the one on vintage trailer supply, #VTS-268.

Apparently this same door knob was used in the 60's BUT the late 60's have an extra long bolt. There is a great difference in prices, I am wondering if someone put in the wrong door knob.

It is very hard to get your fingers between the screen to push the handle down to get in and harder getting your fingers on the handle to shut from the inside.

I was wondering if what the original door knob looked like. I can send picture of my door knob but it looks just like the one on vintage trailer supply.

Door lock

Welcome,
Your on the right track. Thats the lock you need and should have. You can have either a lever or a knob on the inside. Your question confuses me. The screen should not be in the way of the knob/lever at all. See the picture. See, also, the explaination that is with the picture at VAC. When all else fails ask here or even call Inland. They will have the answers. By the way, the long and short latches are changable. North Dallas RV has lost of the parts.

I have the exact same Bargman Door Handle and Lock assembly on my 1969 23' Safari..... so I am guessing you are on the right track....

I do see these exact assemblies on ebay quite alot tho....seem to go much cheaper....

And i guess i wouldn't know which of the two assy's that VTS shows is the one for you..... I had mine apart last summer, and took it to a local lock shop, and he made a set of keys in about 30 seconds flat....

On a similar tack tho, I have always been curious about this.... My Grandparents had an exact duplicate clone '69 23' Safari, from 11/68 to the latter part of 76. Gramps Safari, like mine was a very early production 69..(yes there is quite a difference in many small things between early and late 69 production!!)

But Gramps Safari, i distinctly remember had a nice lever style door handle, with AIRSTREAM stamped right into it on the outside...a big beautiful cast chromed thing, maybe 7 inches long, and on the inside, a smaller lever also.

Actually, I was a tad disappointed in the lack of this lever door handle on my own Safari, when i took delivery of it, last June....But ya know i have never once seen one for sale anywhere, the forum, ebay, VTS, Inland...nowhere....

You know, in mostly all of the Airstream photos posted here on the forum, and most vintage Airstreams i have seen in the past few years, I have never seen this lever door handle again. What makes this so rare????

This must have been a very small production item, or a fluke, or what.....who knows..... I'm sure now that someone will come forth with info I have wondered about for a very long time....

Sorry guys I haven't gotten you the photo of my door. That is on my to do list this weekend. My screen is totally different on my 69 31'. It appears it may have been replaced with a different screen from another year.

There is a search button at the top of the page. Run a search for resize photos. There are several methods suggested.
