We plan to attend the Ham Radio Convention this year in Dayton, Ohio in May. Can anyone recommend a good place to camp there with our Airstream?

I always plan on going ,If I get there is always a different matter. There is a KOA on OLD US 40 . I think its classed as Dayton. Its about 9 miles from the arena,better book early.
I have no facilitys for Sewer but If U wanted to park with elect and water U would be welcome. Im about 2 miles from Hara Arena.

We were at the Dayton KOA last spring...didn't know anything about a convention but it was a great campground and full of neat people attending a Ham Convention! Our lot backed up to a little creek... and busy as it was... it was a quiet stay for us!

I will be there as always. Sites 2314-15 and 16. Look for the Military communications shelter on the back of my silver Dodge Ram. I have been to the KOA just west of Hamvention exit off 70. Its a REALLY nice Campground. If I was taking my A/S thats where I would stay for sure!

I hope u have a plan to visit after hrs of course . I bet MaryLou could find an adult beverage or two. We are only bout 7 miles from that KOA. Unless I see you first. My sister is calling a family get-together in April in Howell (closer to Brighton) one never knows what might happen. After this month of Feb I never know anymore with the loss of 3 family members.

Roger. You will have to come party with us. We go to Boltz on Thursday night and our hotel has a outside party for all of us on Friday eve. On Saturday eve we go to the Old Hickory

I can't wait either. Its a big trip for us. I think we'll be gone about 4-6 wks. We're just starting to get serious about our plans.

Hey Otters,

Great idea, after all, Peeps prefer Ham over other farm animal friends! How exciting to be planning a big trip...you are gonna love it.

Hi TM,
Our Peep is actually vegetarian. He thinks we 're going to the Ham

event to protest with other PETA members.

Missed seeing you guys at the last couple of So Cal Rallies. Hope its not too long until the next Cal Streamers Rally for us. When I think of the big trip, I keep thinking of your AS mid-west trip running from the Tornadoes. Hope we don't have the same experience!

If current plans hold I will be at Dayton and will be staying at the KOA - it's really the only CG that's reasonably close. KOA will be crowded - likely full - but this will be the 6th Hamvention that I've stayed there and never any problems.

Sweet, we cant tow our trailer down because we take a miltary communication shelter on the back of the truck, but feel free to meet up with us, and come hang out.

It's coming up! The annual Hamvention is May 16, 17, 18th.

There are campgrounds listed on the website. The KOA apparently has a 4 day stay requirement and a shuttle bus<--Bonus!

I bet they're already full!

There is another campground in the area (New Paris, OH) called Natural Springs. It sounds like a very nice place. They say it's 22 miles away from Hara Arena and they will provide transpo as well.

One other option is to stay across the street from Hara in one of the large fields used for parking cars. In the past they've let RVs stay there overnight for a little extra. They place them along the back fence. Rick Davis (K8DOC) is an Airstreamer and is a regular at the Hamvention. That's where he usually parks with his trailer. It's boondocking, of course. I'd also worry if it rained that it could become a swampy mudfest!

Can I go??? That's up to the ER scheduling gods! I don't have my May schedule yet, so it's all a big maybe for me....
