We’re looking at Starlink and are wondering on the options for changing from the RV/Roaming option to the stationary/residential mode, and what are the taxes? I’d have to order it for MD, but plan to use it in DE initially and then traveling once we retire. Can you easily change the billing address? Assuming so, but it’s worth asking.
Residential service is assigned by ground zone. Access from a permanent location depends on how ‘crowded’ the zone and waitlisting for an available slot could be quick…or don’t hold your breath. We got a slot more than a year ago and then used the roam addon for our summer RV voyage—which has just been ditched by Elon. Checking options for the next upcoming trip seems to require switching to RV service at $150 with the warning that we lose the Residential slot with no guarantee of getting it back.
I can see that, the map for coverage is turning a darker blue shade. Can you pause the service without an additional cost for re-activation?
I'm using a spare phone as a hotspot and it's limited and spotty at times. Starlink with the extra costs still seems like a better option. We want to know all the hidden facts before buying the dish to add to our accessory list.
I would say given all the rule/pricing changes Starlink has made it's difficult to plan. As near as I can tell the service is month to month so you can just cancel if you don't like it. Not sure there is any market for the used gear.
I think the current RV plan does allow you to turn off and resume service. If you only want it a couple months a year that could be helpful. My use case is I need it when I need it so I leave mine on. FYI: You need an Internet connection to turn it back on so that might be a problem in some cases.
Personally I prefer cell but it has it's own problems. I drag out my Starlink when I run into one of those. The two complaint each other cell is easier and Starlink tends to work better when the cell coverage is worse. For me it's $150 a month backup to my cell plan.
