When I started working for IBM, I serviced card punch machines. It was a great job at the time.

Just for the youngsters (55 and younger) who may not know what we are talking about thought I would provide some pictures. Two punch cards, a card sorter and a punch card machine.

The keypunch is a model 129, it was the latest thing in 1972 when I started with Big Blue.

I started on the ugly old 029 keypunch machines, eventually went to the Univac 1700 series electronic ones. You had to be a heck of a mechanic and good at electronics in those days...

Must we bring back terrible memory of punch cards? What's next, paper tape???
On the news, I am assuming these are the new class of small satellites so they can be sent up at a far faster rate than the older ones.

A genuine Chinese Abacus** (we keep one around if the calculators batteries die. )
**Chinese because it’s two beads above the rail, and 5 below. If it was one and four, it would be a Japanese Soroban...
Daily trivia delivered. Heading to bed now...
And yes, I still have my college slide rule...
