I have a mounted automatic DirecTV Trav’ler dish mostly because I have DirecTv at home. If I were starting from zero I would probably get a Dish Network portable dish.
Pros:
There are mounted and portables available for Dish Network.
Dish is the only portable that can receive Hd
A portable can be set in an area where it can see the satellites when the trailer is in the trees.
Portables are generally less expensive than mounted.
You can start and stop service on a monthly basis
Cons:
Lots of complaints about customer service, have to call to do anything
Dish Network antenna is single satellite and must move to change satellites. If you have multiple TVs, one receiver has satellite priority. The other can only watch shows on the same satellite as the priority receiver.
DirecTV
Pros:
Antenna is multi-satellite capable. All receivers can tune all satellites.
Lots of on-line capability, like resetting receivers that have been inactive for a while.
Telephone support generally helpful but only average capability
Cons:
I understand that there is no SD programming available and no portable dish that can receive HD. I understand there is one in development but so far haven’t seen one advertised.
