RVDATASET Unlimited Data and Unthrottled???

A friend just introduced me to "RVDATASET" (www.rvdataset.com) which claims to have unlimited and unthrottled data plans for $99 per month plus the purchase of their Pep Wave Router and activation plan. Is anyone using this or familiar with it? Also, would you happen to know if the Pep Wave Router used in the Airstream Connected is the same as the RV Data Set one?

Looks like the link is rvdatasat.com not set.

There is almost no info on their website about the equipment so hard to tell. The price would lead me to believe it is a Cat8 single modem with potentially dual SIM similar to the AS Connected.

I purchased from mobilemusthave.com.

They also offer 3rd party unlimited plans but they are more expensive. Very happy with it so far.

I bought a cat-12 dual modem that can throttle data across two internet connections and a have a few other components that make my system almost fool proof.

Hi

Welcome to the wonderful world of "unlimited until we change our minds"..... At that point you have their hardware and "the plan" is something very different than you signed up for.

Very true. One thing people need to get used to is just buying multiple prepaid sims and managing their network data rates.

All this can be done with the pepwave router. Likely at a cheaper rate then unlimited plans.

Its satellite based internet. The hardware for permanent RV mount is large taking up a lot of roof real estate. There are 2 systems: the 840 is $7K and for "bandwidth hogs" the 980 is $16K both are plus installation. The 980 is larger than the 42" dish of the 840. Max download speed for the higher cost - contract - plans is 2Mbs with up to 1Mbs up for $410 per month. Pretty darn slow. There are entertainment plans that feature some late late night advantages.

To learn or keep abreast of ALL things mobile internet, I suggest joining Mobil Internet Aficionados.

Does anyone have experience with the AS installed modem/internet system? Are the systems mentioned in the thread better?

Hi

Satellite based systems can be a challenge in a lot of areas. Mountains between you and the sat are never a good thing. Heavy tree cover can have an impact.

We put a PepLink unit with four LAN ports at my place in Indiana. I have replaced two constant battery bloatable Verizon MiFis with Peplink units. The Verizon MiFi units do NOT like continous power and a bulging lithium battery is a problem. The AT&T cable modem charge of $65 per month for only internet access service was cancelled. Payback is about ten months.

The Peplink is on my Verizon top tier unlimited data plan at about $15 per month net cost. It has 15GB of data at 4LTE speeds and will drop back to 600kbs when we blow through the base amount. Still can watch a movie if desired. The main purpose is to provide internet access to the structure's alarm system, garage door opener and the thermostat when we are away.

I use my iPhone's hot spot to provide internet access for the laptop. I have an iPad Pro and iPad mini that can also provide hotspot services, so data access is adequate.

The Peplink has two sim slots and can be programmed to fall over from one to the other. That could work for the "PrePaid" crowd.

The other Peplink we have can be moved between the two Airstreams that each have an external antenna.

I have never received any thanks from any telephone service provider or Dish Network representative. Only when telling them "GOODBYE" do they suddenly think of a lower rate. I always tell them the opportunity for that gambit expired years before. A lowering price over time could perhaps help maintain customer loyalty.
