PC or Mac

What is your primary computer system. PC, Mac or Something else.

A poll like this was done almost 3 years ago. But this one will be more simple, 3 choices - PC, Mac or Other.

If you are other, tell what you use.

We are a Mac family but we have one PC to run the satellite system for internet.

I support a network of 300 PC and 100 macs. The macs are usually trouble free and have been running for 5-6 yrs. The PCs are always on the fritz. Windows can be the most screwed up operating system!

Strictly Mac at Home

I've been exclusively on Macs since April, 1984 with the first model. Yes, I know the difference. I use a PC at work every day.

The new iLife '06 software suite of iPhoto, iTunes, iDVD, iMovieHD, GarageBand and iWeb, BTW, is worth every penny.

PC work/home thinking about Mac laptop...

The more I read the more I'm leaning toward a Mac laptop.

My personal choice is Mac since the early days of an Apple IIgs. That thing was crude but we thought it was fantastic at the time. Have 20" iMac at home, eMac at work and carry an iBook G3, soon to upgrade to a PowerBook G4. Also use a PC at work for the college's system software and am always having trouble with it. Our IT dept. would be a lot less busy if everyone had a Mac.

I manage over 600 Macs at work (eMacs, iMacs, iBooks and Powerbooks), also 20 xServes and 8 xServe Raids all with my 17" Powerbook G4.

At home, I have 2 Dual gig G4s.

A bad day with a Mac beats a great day with a PC, unless that PC is running Linux.

We have had Macs ever since 1984. Right now we have an iMac 5 on the desktop and a 17-inch Powerbook on the lap.

I'm a retired CIO of a firm with over 1,000 Windows boxes and one Mac, mine. After all, at least someone had to be on the cutting edge; someone had to have first access to the best software including Mac-first applications like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Mosaic, PageMaker, and Photoshop; someone had to be able to open or read files infected by viruses that couldn't be opened with DOS or Windows.

In 15 years at work, we spent millions of dollars for hardware, software and personnel trying to keep the DOS and Windows computers free of viruses, worms, trojan horses, and spyware. Untold hours of downtime were spent in rebuilding desktop machines, restoring software, adding patches, and training people. Not a single penny was spent on security or restoration of Macs or the 15 or so Macs that we once used in another department. Zero, nada, nothing. Corporate America makes strange and often foolish choices. And, it costs a fortune to support those choices.

People who spend their hard-earned money for personal computers have real choices. I urge anyone contemplating a new or replacement computer to give the Apple offerings a test run. It's not just the hardware; it's the software and user experience, too.

It has been Apple computers from the start, just like Davydd.

I currently use an iMac flat panel at home with an iBook for travel...flawless. I even use my original Mac+ at work as a fax drone. Unfortunately, all the other work computers are PCs on a network with all the related issues of such a setup.

As the system administrator says, "Windows... it's a living."

I have a live cd of DSL (Damn Small Linux) running on a dual celeron 300 clocked to just over 500 crunching data for seti. All running on ramdrive.
Have a g4 dual gig and 2 powerbook g4, one 15" and one 17".
One thing I don't like is networking a mac. PC is easier networking.

Pc/Mac

We were mac users for 2 years. We are very happy we changed to PC. Mac has fallen behind in the ultra high resolution photography that we do.

I have a pin that reads "Welcome to hell...here's your copy of Windows." It hangs next to my iMac at home.

You're kidding right? Networking the Mac fleet I manage at work and use at home is a snap. You doin' it manually or with DHCP?

I did something really cool this past weekend. My wife's parents have a graphite G3 running 10.3.9 connected to a broadband connection. They had some issues and from 300 miles away, I used Apple Remote Desktop, connected to the Mac via the Internet like I was sitting in front of it and solved the issue, which wasn't an OS issue, their niece threw away their copy of Excel...yea, they let her use the machine with their admin account.....

My Apple use started when in 6th grade, they slid an Apple II+ under my snoot.....and I've never owned anything else than an Apple....acutally converted a few folks along the way who were staunch PC users that use to laugh at me.....until they tried it.

I have an Apple II+, IIgs, Mac SE and 7600/200 sitting on the shelf for fun. I have a shoebox full of 5.25s and 3.5s for the Apple IIs that still work.

An educated user can make the best uses of either one of the systems.
I will admit that, for the last 12 yrs, I've wasted more of my time trying to fix and, cussing Bill Gate....lol

I have both. Much prefer and use more often my Apple products. My pc is cranky and cantakerous compared to my macs.
I run a small network of macs at work, 3 computers, dsl and a printer. It goes down about 2-3 times a year, usually due to someone changing a crucial perimeter by accident, or because SBC messes up my internet. I would call that spectacularly reliable.
I use the pc less and less, it sits collecting dust until I need it to run 2 sets of obscure speaker building software that will not run on a mac.

My first computer was a Mac SE, about 20 years ago. I’ve never used anything but a Mac.

I’m not a sophisticated user. Essentially writing, recordkeeping, the INTERNET.

I have the latest OS Tiger 10.4.4 on both my iMac desktop and iBook G4 but have not yet explored the wonderful world of all the exclusive Mac features: iTunes, iChat, iMovie,iCal, on and on.

I do use iPhoto in a limited way and wish I had time to explore more.

I am wireless with a Airport Extreme at home and a Airport Express out in the country with the trailer.

For all these 20 plus years I’ve heard others complaining about problems with their PC. Most Mac users will be like me and not understand why they have so many issues. We rarely do.

On the other hand, we have Apple Care. Day or night, 7 days a week, we can call a 1-800 # and talk to a specialist.

Apple makes the machine AND the operating system. There is no equal to this in the world. They have never failed to fix a problem or find out what I was doing wrong.

Steve Jobs, the founder of Apple Computer recently said:

“Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice”

That is likely the main reason they are so far ahead in so many areas.

I hope to remember his advice as I remodel my ARGOSY.

I had a Mac when teaching and loved it. We have a PC (Dell) at home; when I get a notebook for the computer and travel, I'm planning on Mac again. So easy for my so basic kind of use. ~G

Computers I have:

G5 Dual 2.7
G4 Powerbook 15" 1.25
G4 MacMini 1.42
G4 Mirror Door Dual 867

P4 2.8 gHz custom build Home Theater PC/DVD Scaler, Windows XP
P2 450 Vehicle diagnostic computer (VAG-COM for the Volkswagen), Window2K

Historical (and taking up space)
G3 iBook 500 <-Dead
G3 Powermac 300
G1 PowerMac 7100/66 <- SimCity playa

As you can see, I use both, but only Mac's on a daily basis, and to avoid virus/spryware infection from the many email and webmaster accounts I manage. I also use the Powerbook when traveling to clients unknown networks to avoid viruses, and to do wireless site surveys with KisMac.

The PC's are strictly purpose used.

Interesting that the poll shows mostly PC users, but all the POSITVE comments are here for the Mac.

My studio is all Apple. 2 Powerbooks, Imac, G5 dual, G3 print server, Airport wireless.

It is a no brainer working with Macs. Just installing software, about four steps for the mac, three pages and a rented engineer for the PC.

I've worked on both platforms. If you want to get work done and have fun at the same time: Apple. If you want to write emails, surf porn, or enjoy rebooting and viruses, than the PC is you platform.

Oh man, I better not get going on this one....
