Hook up of Dish sattelite box to my 2018 FC 27

2018 FC 27’

Want to add a Sattelite system to my AS. As I know the outside Sat connection exists alongside the cable connection, hooking up the dish to that connection is not the question.

Can you locate the sat box receiver on top of the DVD player and are there existing cables at that location to hook up the sat box dish connection and an extra HDMI connection that ties into the front and back tv monitors. I am guessing that there are extra cables behind the DVD player, ie; dish cable, and HDMI feed cables for the TVs

If not, where on the inside of the trailer is the cable that connects to the dish connection, if not in the same location of the DVD player.

Pull the DVD player out of its hole. Behind it you will find the sat cable connection.

You will probably need an HDMI splitter or switch so that you can use both the DVD player and the satellite receiver. IF you don't use the DVD player, just unplug the HDMI cable and plug it into the satellite receiver.

We did this last summer - you'll find the SAT connection coaxial behind the blu-ray player (player held in pace with some velcro at front but pulls out easily)... we used a 2x2 powered HDMI splitter with blu-ray and sat receiver as inputs and the two TVs as outputs - this way you can throw either the blu-ray or sat signal to both TVs at the same time otherwise the sat will just go to the living area TV typically. You'll need some extra power outlets in the cabinet - we used https://smile.amazon.com/Version-Pow...vel+power+cube

hope this is useful

You might find this recent thread helpful.

http://www.airforums.com/forums/f451...ns-182838.html

We jumped in this last summer and had CW do the swap for the BR. We did a dry run locally for a night but will soon have the cross-country use.

Here is recent thread from this summer.
http://www.airforums.com/forums/f451...ns-182838.html

We jumped in last spring but didn't activate & install until the summer. I pulled the BR, saw the birds nest and called CW for the install and walkthru. In retrospect, it was an easy swap. One word of advice on the threads, some units have 2 tv's and others just one.

BTW, just opt for the pay as you go, smart pak option, not on their website as we just want the local channels and fox news. No need for the sports & movies in the larger packages.

Airstream Dish Install

I just completed a few additions to my AS entertainment equipment.
I signed up for the Dish Outdoor Package that allows for pay-as-you-go. I purchased a Weingard Pathway x2 portable sat dish and a Wally Receiver (note some old reviews say this does not work well finding multiple satellites, but they are incorrect). This Weingard is excellent because it will find both East and West satellites rather than just one or the other set. It is a bit larger than other Dish sat dishes that only access one set of seats. The antenna is larger and is therefore gets better reception in marginal situations. I also signed up for Distant Local Stations (all local LA stations, all NYC stations soon). This allows many more local channels than might be available in remote locations. This requires an FCC application process and extra monthly charge.

I also purchased a 4x2 HDMI powered matrix switch, that allows all inputs (DVD, Roku, Dish, PC) to be connected and send out to each of two TVs, either same content or different.

I installed a ROKU Ultra for streaming internet content. Remote is radio not infrared, so no line of site required.

Since many campgrounds have such poor WiFi, I also installed a WiFiRanger SkyProLTE. This is dealer installed with a roof mounted WiFi and Cellular modem, both with large MIMO antennas. You can pick up Wi-Fi from over a mile away, can pick up cellular data that you can’t get inside your AS, and the inside router will create a massive data pipeline from up to 5 sources combined together. You can also surf safely with built in VPN. Note picture showing Blue Ray, Wally, 4x2 Switch, WiFi Ranger interior Router, and Roku off to right side. Yellow paper covers personal labels.
Note small surge power strip to plug everything into.

As soon as I can figure how to attach a PDF file it should answer your questions.

Thanks for the reply. I removed the DVD/BR from the enclosure but could not find the coaxial pigtail. Found the installed splitter coming from DVD to the 2 TVs, the USB cabling and the power cords running to the receptacle, but not the SAT cable. Not sure where else the coax could be. May have to contact AS service department to find out where else it might be, or remove the DVD box completely.

I will definitely take your suggestion for the 2x2 splitter and receptacle cube.

Any other ideas of where the cable would be would be interested in any thoughts.

satellite hook up

There is no elegant way to install the sat receiver. I have a 2017 27' international FB, and while there are cables there, not all are usable. For the Wally(Dish), I sat mine on to of the DVD player. As to cabling, you can make a choice of using one of the HDMI cables for the sat receiver, and decide where you want your sat TV, front or back. Also, one needs to use an AC multi plug to power, the DVD, the Clarion, and the Wally. There are splitters (I think a 4/2) that would allow both DVD, and Wally on both tvs, but it would require a switch. As I said, not elegant. I decided to take my AS back to the dealer, and since I have some warranty work needed, I will have them clean up my temporary solution. they do have a tech who does that stuff.

I unplugged the BluRay player. The coaxial cable was marked SAT so I put that on the Dish receiver. There is a HDMI cable which is coming out of the cord opening in the box. I plugged that into the Wally Receiver as well. The TV in living area I made sure the HDMI is plugged into HDMi 1 as the directions indicate that is for SAT.
I have no reception from the Satellite receiver. I also could not get the BluRay player to be recognized by TV when HDMI is plugged into HDMI 2. The instructions indicated this is where the HDMI should be plugged into for BluRay. I'm about ready to throw in the towel.

Hdmi install

Here is a picture of my install. Apple TV, Wally Receiver,
Airstream DVD/blueray & HDMI splitter box. Added a 2-6 110 plug outlet for the power cords and purchased a HDMI splitter to control the apple and wally box. The external sat cable goes to the wally all HDMI calls go to the splitter which then goes out to the 2 TV's. If you'd like more specific details post 'em and I'll try and help out. Or you can DM me. This is how i did it for my purposes based on several other threads and their ideas, It may or may not be what your looking for. Good Luck

Thank you!
I called Airstream support today and they said there is a 2x4 splitter behind the panel in the cupboard where bluray is located. They suspected original owner unplugged TV from splitter or it isn't working. I will take you up on the offer to provide more assistance. We won't be back at AS until the weekend. We will investigate further!

This is very helpful. Can you tell me how to get to the splitter that’s already there? I seem to be stuck at this point. I found the satellite in cable which was not behind the blue ray player but I seem to be stuck on where to connect the hdmi. Here’s hoping you can help me...lol

As the picture shows I pulled most everything out to game access to all the factory cabling. In there you'll find the OEM HDMI 2 splitter which I removed and replaced with a 4 input 2 output box. Had to do a little modification (cutting) to fit it above the blue ray player and then on the upper shelf the sat receiver and apple TV (or whatever streaming box you choose). I also installed a 2 to 6 AC outlet box (as shown in my previous post) to power all the electronics. Hope this helps.

As CPTDZL mentioned above you need to get to the cable coming in and connect to the splitter. Like above a also replaced the two way splitter with a four way as it gives more flexibility to add more devises as time goes on.

I know its a paid but once set up you will be happy with it.

Yeah, that looks right, ha ha. The Wally is such a pain, I remember how great it felt to finally have it perfectly installed.
