I have been planning to look up the thread I started about the satellite issue and post my results with this dealer. I'm hesitant to name the dealer; however, one of the folks from customer service has been posting on the airforums and he named this dealer in the thread. I guess he would be interested in finding out that I was presented a bill for $300 for the warranty repair to my satellite connection. I thought this was reprehensible because an unwitting customer (a meek senior for example) might have felt compelled to pay it. To me that is just deplorable!

I had the same problem with a dealer in FLorida. My brakes were acting up. They could not find anything wrong and charged me $160. Nothing wrong. No Warrenty claim. I could not argue with that. But I knew something was wrong. Eventualy they did find the problem but did not refund my money. Dave Schumann heard about this.

I'm using Dish network and a King Dome that was installed at the factory. I use the receiver from my shop in the AS. Takes 30 seconds to hook it up.

Trees do present problems, but it's easier to sit in the shade and read a book than to phart around with a tripod dish!

Isn't that what camping is all about?

BTW...put heat on your congress person to change the laws so that you can get local channels anywhere you travel.

With all due apologies to my friends in New Mexico, I live in Colorado and I'm forced to watch Albuquerque local networks.

We are going to stay at a city park that does not have cable, so I decided it was now or call in the install professional to get the Directv to work. So, after two days of trying, it finally works.

It got down to the dish or LNB had to be bad. I went to Camping World and bought another dish with dual LNB. Hooked it up and it worked!!

Camping World does have a new Vue Qube or something like that. It is a cube that has an antenna in it and automatically sets up, anywhere. On a picnic table, the ground, or wherever. If I did not have over $300 invested already and was just getting into satellite tv, I would probably pay the $600 or $700 for the Vue. Now if I can just get my setup to work in Jacksonville.

I have the 5 lnb dish from direct tv on a tripod. Needs two coaxial cables if you want full dvr capability. RG 6 all copper wiring. No copper coated steel. Won't work if run through a splitter. I ran the two wires in under the refrigerator along an LP line. The slimline dish is big, but, sets up easily using a quality signal meter. With this setup we can now use the dvr function of the reciever, get all the HD channels, and PPV. I hide the reciever under the dinnette, and, run an HDMI cable to the TV.
Wineguard will have a pop up 5 lnb direct tv dish available this mth for permanent mounting on top of an RV. Camping world is taking pre orders now. They also will have a 3 lnb pop up dish for those wanting dish network HD.

Tom, you are way ahead of us. Right now I am just happy to get satellite with two RG6 cables thru the front door directly to the receiver and a spare tv. If I can continue to get a signal, then I will try to figure out how to use the wiring in the AS.

The easiest setup is with a VuCube. Connect the co-ax sit it on the ground facing south and fine tune with the remote. Way overpriced however but it works great and is light as a feather and easy one piece storage.

We were in JAX in the woods this past week, but I did get the Directv signal. I ran the 2 RG6 cables thru the door.

Tom, it looks to me that you have run all new RG6 cables through your AS, not using any of the AS cable. Am I seeing that right?

That's right. For full DVR function I needed two coaxial cables to the DTV HR- 20 receiver. No splitters.

Thanks Tom! So now I will run two separate and new RG6 cables from the dish into the AS. If I want to use two tvs, I can run one cable to each can't I? Just won't be able to record one program and watch another?

i know they make telescopes with built-in GPS tracking devices which cdan find space
co-ordinates, constellations,planets, etc. is there such a device for sat. dishes?

Yes. Several manufactures make self aligning dishes. But, for the latest full HD lineup from DISH or DTV you need to go with Wineguard.

direct t v official story is that they discontinued the emergency/disaster kit they used to have. the tripod and dish deal has not been available for a couple months now.

OK...To this day I still have not got the direct Tv up and running.I just have not really needed it but now with the change in Feb of next year is coming up I think it is time to start figuring this thing out.

When the change takes place will I need to get a digital converter box to use the antenna on the Airstream so I can pick up local channels.

We have a 2007 with the TV installed by Airstream and we will need the converter box in Feb 2009 to watch TV from the roof mounted antenna. I'm sure that if you have the original TV installed by Airstream, you will need a conveter box to use your roof mounted antenna.

You will only need a converter box IF your TV is NOT digital. If you have a digital TV already, you won't need anything new.

I have a 15" HDTV for the trailer and it picks up digital HD and analog stations just fine with the OEM antenna. But only when in the vicinity of major metro areas. In Feb., we will not get the analog signals but will still receive the digital broadcasts. I only bring along the dish, tripod and receiver box when I will be in a remote area and only if there is something special I will be wanting to watch. Otherwise there is DVD and Ipod to hook up.

The white wire goes to the tv out of the picture. If you have questions send me a PM with your phone number or have everything with you at the Can Opener and we can hook it up then.

The A/B box was necessary because of interference between the Directv and a digital local digital signal when both were available.

Unless you bought the tv in the last year or so I doubt it is a digital tv but check that out first.

I have DirectTV at my home and I just bought a dish off ebay that has the three globes to get the local Oklahoma City stations. I had it aligned by a professional down at the lake and took one of my receivers from the spare room at the house and I have the same service at the lake that I have here at home, for no extra cost. After watching the guy set the dish up and getting a satillite finder, I think I could do it myself now. You have to get a dish that has the two directional tilts or it's very hard to set up yourself. If you have Direct or Dish you can use analog without problems. We have new LCD Digital in both trailers, so that's not a problem for us. It really wasn't as hard to do as I feared.
