Wireless back up camera.. Recommendation

Not sure if its been covered before.

On my 2013 F150 with Navigation I have a back-up camera on the truck already and it displays on the big navigation Display. I don't want another monitor and want to use the one I have already. The only solution I have found is this. https://camera-source.com/products/f...-fim-lockipick

It allows you to not only add a second or third camera but also unlock the NAV safety features. Now some would say why unlock the safety features but I would like to monitor not only the hitch while I am driving but also whats behind the Airstream. Also you can play movies for others while on long trips and many other convenient features. The beauty of it is that you use the display already in your truck no second monitor.

Shaggy - if you use your in dash monitor for this, do you lose your GPS screen and maps?

Steve, No not at all. It actually enhances the features you have already. Right now when the truck is in drive I can't input an address with the touch screen feature, but with this I can. My Ford touch works just like before but without any of the annoying safety features. You can't play a DVD while the car is moving or check your back up cam but now you can. Here is a video of it in action, its on an older F150 but you get the idea.

Wow am I happy I bumped into this...
First I was looking for a camera for my AS, Next I was looking for a new GPS because the one built into the F150 does not allow us to put-in or change addresses while moving and here is a rig that looks like it will solve all my problems.

As a user - Does it work as good as it looks like it does? How did you run the wiring from the camera on the trailer to the truck?

Edit - Just watched the install video. WOW that is not for the faint of heart - Yicks!

I was just reading on a truck forum yesterday that the new factory-installed GPS units will not allow any changes unless the vehicle is stopped and in park. To me, that makes this type of unit virtually useless. SuEllyn is always making GPS changes while we are underway.

I am glad that I am now aware this so that I will never buy any vehicle with an installed GPS system

The aftermarket has a device that over-rides those "safety" features- will allow you to watch DVD's while driving...
GPS works anyway- otherwise it would be useless.

The Lock Pic Disables all the safety features and works on all models including current year. Questions call the the people in the link posted and they will answer all your questions.

I called and I ordered it. The receiver needs an adaptor for the RCA plugs but he assured me it will work.
Will order the Garmin today. Now the challenge will be installing it, I'm not comfortable drilling I to airstream myself unless I can get some detailed instructions.

You have me a little confused, Rick. I was under the impression that you were talking about mating the Garmin RV760LMT to a Voyager wireless camera. If this is the case, I don't see why any wire plug adapters would be required.

I had gotten the impression from earlier posts to this thread that since the Garmin RV760LMT was set up to receive the Garmin brand wireless camera, it would also receive the signal from a Voyager wireless camera.

Well after some thought and reading every post on this tread. It seems the best option (for me) would be the Garmin (RV760LMT) married with the Voyager Wireless camera. But I have couple questions....

Question:
- So just to confirm this pair does work together?
- Is there any installation issues one needs to be aware of?
- What do folks feel is the best location to mount the camera on my AS. Could one mount it in the back window? As this would to get me around having to drill holes in the exterior of the trailer.

Edit - One more question for anyone who has this GPS. Does it have the ability to indicate elevation? That is a function we often wished we had and one I would want in a new unit.

The package that mounts right in the F150 looked really interesting. But the more that I thought about it, the issue for me is this system then becomes permanent with this particular F150. Considering the miles I put on annually, this might not be a good thing...

Hi Doug. You are on the very same page as I am on this Garmin RV 760LMT/Voyager wireless camera issue. As to the mounting, I already have the Voyager camera mounted on my Airstream. The camera is on a quick disconnect bracket so that I can easily dismount the camera when I am going to be away from the Airstream. At the price of the Voyager camera, it would be a tempting theft target.

As to the altimeter function, I am guessing that it does have it. My current GPS is a Garmin Nuvi 660 that I purchased new in 2005, and it has the altimeter feature. I'll see if I can get into the on-line manual for the RV 760LMT and check it out.

I was able to download the 24 page owners manual for the Garmin RV 760LMT. I have read the entire manual, including the index, and can not find any reference to an altimeter function. I find this a little disappointing as the RV 760LMT is one of Garmin's top-of-the-line GPS units. I can't imaging why Garmin would drop a feature that their GPS units had ten years ago.
