USB Input available with Audio/Video Upgrade package

Looking to feed internet radio from my laptop into the Safari's sound system, I read posts where folks added a Sony XA-300 (has USB input) to their Sony CD player, gaining additional audio inputs. For those of you with Airstream's Audio/Video upgrade package, you probably have an XA-300 already.

I found the XA-300 buried behind the access panel to the Sony headunit. For some reason, Airstream decided to not bring out the USB jack. I plugged a standard USB cable into the XA-300 and ran it out the same hole as the CD changer cable. My laptop immediately recognized it as "USB Speakers" and all I had to do is select the source on the headunit as CDC4=USB.

btw, if you've not listened to Pandora, it is worth a look. You create you own "radio stations". By asking you to seed the station with a song or artist, Pandora helps you figure out what type music you like and then keeps streaming great songs.

selecting USB Speakers as Windows output sound device

It seems that when using a Windows laptop to play audio into the Sony via USB, the audio device should be selected before starting up the audio application. e.g. when using a browser to play Pandora, I select USB Speakers first, then start Firefox browser.

I found a simple application that makes switching audio output devices easier in Windows and sits in the system tray.

Adding a Bluray Player?

Hello, Thanks for your post on this adapter to add other input into the stereo. I have a 2007 31' classic with the same stereo setup you described. I've considered removing the CD changer in favor of the USB line in for MP3 player and possibly a bluray player in the place where the changer currently sits. I was thinking that if I added it in that cabinet, I could plug the audio directly into the stereo-- but routing the HDMI cable to the TV might be a chore. I'm curious if anyone had tried adding a bluray player into this stereo system in this way.

Any suggestions out there?

Thanks,
Steve
