TV antenna
My next project is to figure out my Winegard TV antenna system. The PO installed it and a female coax connecter is hidden within the front light and fan system. A cutout was made in the frontside light cover where this male coax connector could be attached (shown here disconnected for clarity).

cable down wall
The cable then goes overhead (was up there with small screws but taken down before sale to me), down the wall by the curtains, behind the couch and behind the entertainment center.

By TV
Here the cables have run from behind the entertainment center to a shelf behind the tambour door. The free 5" B & W TV will be replaced with a 13" Color Sylvania. You can see the adapter 300 to 70 (or was it 75).

Cable TV?
I think the trailer was wired for cable TV because an outside plug is situated right over my water and electrical reels and the cables run to the front in this shot.

Outlet
Is this an outlet that was wired to the original antenna? It does have 12 v. power and is how I have run my TV with the automobile plug.

Closeup of head
This is a closeup of the head of the Winegard antenna. Is this the amplified version and if so, how does it work. If the coax seen in the previous shots is hooked up then shouldn't it work fine? I'm have mixed feelings if it is helping or not. All input is welcome.

Craig,
It looks like the amplified model.
They sell the complete kit or the antenna alone. The kit includes the 12 Wall plate and cable/ant switch.
The amplifier needs 12 VDC to run and it is in the antenna head. The 12 VDC Is fed to the antenna thu the center conductor of the coax, really.
If you want to get the best reception I would reccomend getting the AMP/splitter plate from the local RV place. Get the Wingard brand or the amp still may not work.
On the back of the plate is an input for Ant, Cable and an output to a second location. The Directions that come with the wall plate are good. If you want to replace the 12 VDC feed that you currently have a quad outlet wall plate will cover the opening nad then you can screw the Winegard plate on top of it.
The switch (little black dot) allows you to switch between cable and antenna without swapping wires.
The reason tha PO cut an access to the wire in the vent is because they did not want to pull the center sheet out of the celing to get to the wires. Just a guess (it only took me 2 days to do it and put it back together)

Yep,
They did it the lazy way. To fix it right depends on how picky you are. You could get some gold chain at the hardware store and do a swag lamp style wrap on it. Your model originally came with a Skyliner which was non-amplified. Winegards come with or without an amplifier so maybe it never had one or it is gone. By the looks of the antennae install they probably left it hanging on the end of the piece of coax, not sure how they powered it up. Do you see any 12 wires hanging arounsd as well? I pulled the center ceiling down on mine to replace the flat cable with the coax, possible yes but not for the faint of heart.

Thanks Brett. It looks like I have my work cut out for me. You would think that it would make a cleaner installation by retrieving the wires when the new unit was put on but I guess they didn't want to do that. Too bad.

Craig,
The wires that ran to the original Skyliner went thru a 2X2 access plate that is on the roof next to the antenna base. There are 4 screws and a ton of vulchem sealing it to the skin. You may be able to see it if you pulled the vent??? More than likely they did not want to disturb it and the downlead from the antenna had disintagrated(SP?). The new antenna has a dowlead feed thru the base with a rubber grommet.
The reason you have to pull the center sheet is that the wires are tied in a bundle and they will not pull around the right angle turn that it makes directly above the wall plate. As Chas said, it depends on how picky you are. I hide all the wires I can. I want it to look like magic so I pulled the center sheet.

Hmmm, let's see. What do I do this weekend, fix the coax, plant my garden or put another engine in my son's '91 C1500? I guess I will wake up early tomorrow morning and decide which one to tackle first. Thanks.

Looking at all the pictures, cause I'm too tired to read all the words, I was amazed at how little has changed since the 70s to the '03 model year. The setups you all show look almost identical to my setup.
I'm taking my sore body to bed. Shouldn't have washed and waxed the Bambi all day. Need sleep and a hot, hot bath! :-)
