Tricked Sound System

Our CCD came with a DVD/CD/Radio Tuner sound system. No clear way to connect the television so as to take advantage of the nice ceiling mounted speakers. Built in TV speakers are fine, but, when the AC is on they it can be difficult to hear.
So, I snaked red/white audio cables from the TV output, disconnected the audio out cables from the CD player to the amplifier, then connected both sets of cables using a female-female adapter. Filled the CD slots with CD's. I select CD player on the system, CD plays without sound as input now feeds from TV.
Now, as long as amplifier is on CD mode, we have nice overhead television listening.
Did not use CD player for music anyway, IPOD has replaced that technology.

Tom,

If you put your source mode on CDC 2 or CDC 3 your tv should play throughout your coach in those speakers.

Just tested this and it works on CDC2 for us! Very Cool!

"If you put your source mode on CDC 2 or CDC 3 your tv should play throughout your coach in those speakers."

When I hit the source button on the Sony player, I get CDC 1, tuner, or DVD. No CDC 2 or 3. Thus, didn't know there was such a thing. The audio output wiring is in place on the TV. Do you suppose I am missing a hook up to the player? The wiring behind the Sony amp looks like a bad birds nest.

This was also news to me. Thanks Airhog. My 2006 CCD came with a different amplifier - I believe it is a Clarion? Hope I find the same source output.

Ours is a 2006 with the Sony removable face unit...probably the same as yours. Turn it on. Press the "Source" button on the left end of the buttons until you get CSC1...then press the next button, which is "Mode"...that should take you to CDC2, then CDC3, etc... On ours, CDC2 puts the TV sound through not only the TV speakers, but the overhead forward and rear speakers.

Hope this works for you! It was real news for me...

I'll give it a try when I get home from work this afternoon and report back. Seems this sound system is a mystery to many of us.

I'll give that a try too - I always thought it was a waste of a good sound system to have the teevee play only through its own speakers.

I gotta figure out how to play my iPod instead of CD's - how did you do it?

Steve and Susan,

You should have an input jack on the side of your locker next to your radio...you can get a splitter cable and hook your iPod into it...then put your radio on aux.

It should play through at that point.

No CDC 2 or 3 on mine. Source/Mode makes no difference. I'll pull the partition and look at the back of the player. See if i can find any unused slots. Although, I really don't know what I will be looking at.

Tom,

Do you have the factory audio/video upgrade???

Try this sequence...source until the cdc shows up...then mode to cdc-2

Yes, I have the factory unit. Hitting mode on CDC does nothing. Only have CDC 1.

henw, I'd take the stereo cover apart. About three minutes and three or four screws and you can see for yourself what's back behind the stereo. Really, it's easy. If you have the factory A/V upgrade, you will have a switching input box back behind the stereo. Maybe it's unplugged. If for some reason you don't have it, you can buy one at Crutchfield about $85 bucks or so and hook up the existing prewired RCA cables from the TV to stereo cavity.

Amazing! It works for me! I was wondering why this high speed low drag system would not address playing the tv thru the system. Guess I'm just a little dumb on that stuff.

audio

For some reason my audio RCA's RED/White are hooked up to the tv Input not output and I couldn't get sound to the TV when I played a dvd. They must have to go to the output then.

When we play our tv on CDC2 we get sound through the surround sound speakers but not through the tv itself. Same when playing DVDs. It's either the speakers or the tv but not both at once. I've always been aggravated by that.

Also, I hate the location of the front speakers in our unit - located directly over the sofa and pointing downward. If you are at the sofa they are blaring in your ear; if you are at the dinette you can't hear them.

Has anyone relocated their front speakers to the front of the overhead cabinet instead of facing downward towards the sofa?
