Speakers
I need some speakers for my new JVC stereo I installed.
We got an aux input on the stereo and plan on running the TV audio through it as well.
I'm not looking for high $$ end. I like the small cube sized Bose speakers but not the price.
Anyone know of a knock off that sounds ok?

Are you gonna replace the speakers in the walls? I remember reading over in the Audio/Stereo sub-forum something about a modern speaker that fits in the walls and sounds pretty good.

I don't have any speakers in the walls.
I was just wanting to use a very small surface mount.

Tim, do you still have the cabinet over the front window? If so, you can mount two flush mount speakers on the underside of that, with white covers, and they will be virtually invisible.

Nope, no cabinet. Just an open shelf.

Tim,
Try Cambridge Soundworks at Cambridge SoundWorks : A Creative Company - Shop for speakers, in-wall speakers, computer speakers, mp3 players, receivers, dvd players, headphones and more!. I use their stuff all the time. they have come out with a bunch of really nice, small satellite/subwoofer combination sets at great prices that sound really good too!

I presume that your JVC stereo is a home type unit, instead of an automotive type. Automotive stereos (head units) use 4 ohm speakers, whereas home stereos use 8 ohm speakers. For home applications I have had good luck with in-wall and deck indoor/outdoor speakers from JVC. There is a Harmon Audio/JVC factory outlet store on Ebay. The selling prices are very reasonable and all items come with a full as-new warranty.

They look good Tim! Are you planning to use a subwoofer too? Well worth the extra $$$$$$$

Good idea. Lew.
I think the JVC has a sub out. I'd have to add a subwoofer amp or get a powered sub.
We'll see....

Are those 12 volt (your link states they are 8 OHMS)?

The speakers don't care what voltage the radio uses is that is hooked to them.
The main concern with speakers is to make sure you don't use an impedance (the 8 ohms) that is smaller than the radio can handle. Typically 4 ohms is the lowest for a car stereo.
So the 8 ohms won't hurt it at all.
Four ohms might provide the maximum power transfer to the speakers and be more efficient.
But the 8 ohms could allow for speakers outside the trailer to be plugged in parrallel with the inside speakers when needed. Humm..... :-)

Pardon my ignorance here, but if regular house speakers work well in cars, then why do they make a different product line especially for cars?
I will be looking for speakers down the road in my restoration project and am having a difficult time finding answers. I want to run my sound system on DC power (i.e. batteries). I also want something that will handle the abuse of road travel. I assume my wants are the same as most other music loving Air travelers . . .
Maybe someone out there is kind enough to educate the confused?

Well, I decided to go with these.... They are probably not as good as the ones from Cambridge but they are half the cost and come with wall brackets.
