Soundbar

Anyone installed a Bose Solo5 sound bar? If so, any hints to share would be appreciated.

I have also been looking at the Bose Solo 5 to augment the 40" Samsung 4K I installed and wold like to see what others think and where and how it was mounted. Also looking to replace the antiquated factory installed AM/FM CD player with something with a 5-6 inch touch screen and car play option.

Would like to see some photos of your new TV install.

I have the Pioneer AVH-4200NEX in two of my cars - including my TV. I love it. I wish Carplay worked with Waze but in an Airstream application this is a non-issue.

I have not looked at the Bose Soundbar so I will take a look and see. I agree that audio from the TV needs to be better and I know a ton of people have used external speakers and soundbars of various manufacturers as an option. I plan on changing to a larger screen in the spring so maybe this is a good opportunity to do both.

just took a look at the Bose Solo 5 - looks like you have three options to connect your TV to the sound bar. Digital audio via Optical or coaxial (single RCA) plus an analog 3.5mm jack (headphone type jack) that you will need to provide your own cable (3.5mm to RCA stereo cable) for. It is about 21.5" across and 3.4" deep (not including cable connections). This may be a little large for most applications unless you don't mind about 6" of speaker sticking out. It probably sounds good but I think for my application I may pass. I think a better option is to move the under cabinet speakers to the front - there is plenty of room and you can either leave old speakers in place or they make covers you can install (similar to blank plates for home outlets). I am going to paint the blanks to better hide in sight.

I yanked my Sony head and 10 disc changer out of our 2008 Classic 25fb to gain more storage space. We never listened to the radio, rarely used the DVD or CDs and now all our music is on our phones and tablets. I didn't come across the Bose Solo 5 until after I purchased the Riva Turbo X Bluetooth speaker (on sale now for $159). The Riva works well as a soundbar when connected via a 3.5mm audio cable but I bet the Solo 5 would be better. I've found the Turbo X a little disappointing playing music over BT from my iPhone as it's not as loud as when its connected via the 3.5mm audio from the TV. The only advantage of the BT speaker is you don't need 110v to play the speaker (until the battery runs down). I'm going to see if our local Best Buy has it on display.

Hi Kelvin - I have not seen one in person but based on dimensions I bet it is much larger than it seems once all is connected. Let me know if you do find one in person - it would be a cool add on.

I installed The Bose this past spring under a new 32" tv. Absolutely love it. Bluetooth works perfectly . Used optical cable from tv for sound. sits nicely under tv, doesn't stick out to far at all. trailer in storage or would send picture. Again great sound in my 25.

My parents bought a Bose Wave radio with CD player years ago which I've inherited. It has a 3.5mm plug. I may try it connected to the Airstream's TV. It sounds pretty good for small device in our larger living room playing Xmas music off an FM station. Since we ditched the Sony head in our Airstream we would have a AM/FM radio in this device. Like the Solo 5 it will require 110v.

I attached piece of oak trim above soundbar so it wouldn't bounce off on rough roads.

Did you have to change your outlet to allow a two plug or was that original on your year model?

Another option here would be to mount a good quality (portable) bluetooth speaker. That way you could use it for the TV but then also take it outside and use it other places. $250 for a bluetooth speaker would get you a very nice one!
