We want to add a 2nd tv in my 93. I have a 20 something inch 12 volt tv with a built in dvd player. I have a Dish Tailgater.(3rd one the other 2 died). I have a I phone but neve set it up as a hotspot. We do subscribe to Netflix. We live and camp out west away from over the air signals, sometimes boondocks As mentioned above Wifi at RV Parks is often sketchy.
1. Should I get a smart tv for my 2nd set?
2. Would setting up[ a I phone hot spot help with tv or my cell phone reception?
Thanks

Hi

A hot spot will do noting good for your conventional TV reception. If it's indoors, it will do no better than most phones as far as data, so no benefit there either.

What *might* help cell phone reception is something like a WeBoost. That puts an antenna outside the RV and rebroadcasts cell signals inside. To really get a benefit, you need to be pretty close to the "inside" antenna. Most of the time we do just as well with it turned off.

The question is will a new smart tv and a hotspot on my I phone combination be able ti stream something like Netflix in my trailer or should I just get a conventional tv?

In my home I have internet through my phone company, a modem and a Roku receiver in order to stream Netflix.

At the risk of being Captain Obvious, a smart tv is a conventional tv with some apps. Any more I doubt there's much of a price difference so why not just get the smart tv?
I'm amused when I hear folks say, "I just bought a 60" tv for $398 at WalMart." There's a lot more to selecting a tv than screen size. Maybe most folks don't care about refresh rates, black blacks, audio and video in's and out's, 1080P vs. 720P or 1080i. 4K vs. 8K or 1080. OLED vs. LED or LCD.

Hi

I have five "smart tv's" here at home. None of them *ever* get used in "smart" mode. All the streaming is done through external boxes.

Will a phone based hotspot allow you to stream? It might or it might not. A *lot* depends on where you are and what carrier you have. We have done streaming that way, but I certainly would not count on being able to do it.
