Removing the box the DVD player is in...

Does anyone have any photos or info on where the screws are located on the box that the DVD player is in on a 2020 FC23CB? I assume the box is probably similar in any other model, but in case that info is helpful.

I want to switch out the crappy Sony S1700 to a Sony S6700 so that I can have wifi and connect to the stereo via bluetooth and the S6700 is a couple inches wider and an inch taller.

Thanks
Steph

On the side of the structure, you will see 4 screws with caps on them. Remove the caps and the philips screws will be visible.

You can remove it from there.

I have always wondered why AS mounts these tiny DVD players in such a large box. I assumed it was filled with padding for some misguided protection. It sure takes up an inordinate about of space.

Does anyone know the reasoning behind this?

Yes, below it is a 2:1 HDMI splitter as well as the 12V to USB connectors.

There is NO padding at all inside if you look at my thread I linked above, you will see exactly the hows and whys.

Basically, a "media" center for all things digital and power??

I think it also raises the DVD player above the lip of the cabinet - if it wasn’t on a shelf you wouldn’t be able to open the door to put a DVD in. It’s definitely a lot of wasted space.

Hah, you should see mine. It’s a rats nest of cables and electronics. I need to pull that shelf out and do something custom. Yours looks nice and clean though. Good job!

As mentioned previously, the DVD enclosure is held in place by screws located at the bottom left of the box. There were no screws on the right side in my 23FB Serenity since the cables coming through the bulkhead from the receiver hold the right side in place.

For those making repairs or replacements to the DVD player I would advise being very careful not to pinch the HDMI cable when replacing the DVD enclosure. I accidentally pinched off the HDMI connector and had to pin-out and solder on a new connector. I have now placed the HDMI cable end behind the receiver and use a short HDMI extension cable through the “bulkhead” to my new media devices.

I also added a separate 12V distribution panel for switches and fuses to each media component. The previous owner also added a DISH satellite receiver. I added a DVR to the satellite receiver to record my favorite shows. I have upgraded the Clarion receiver to a Polk P1 marine receiver and use a Dune Smart HD Blu-ray DVD and removable hard disks that contain my movie and music library (100+ HD movies). I have also upgraded my TV to 4K and added a monitor and Polk Magni-fi Mini sound-bar for the dining area with a video splitter for the dining and bedroom areas.

I am an IT consultant and my AS is my mobile apartment so I have to have my TV, tunes and vids.

- Mike

We had the same question/issue. The better Sony unit just isn't that much more expensive. Anyway, we asked our dealer and were told there is a small panel on the side of the box the DVD player is mounted in. You have to remove that panel to get to the mounting screws for the player. Big PITA. ~Bruce

I dont think I pinched any cords when putting it back together, I guess we’ll see if it quits working down the road, lol. Sounds like you have a great setup.

I’ll be looking for a small smart tv to fit on the wall soon. Not sure they make them that small.

Anyone know if a Dish DVR receiver will fit in the slot provided for the OE DVD player without having to modify it, i.e. cut the box opening? We don't use the DVD player and tend to stream video but are also considering Dish's Pay as You Go portable sat set-up.

You should create a new thread as this will get to be a lengthy discussion.

I did some quick research based on what I assumed is the correct search criteria with the following hardware assumptions in play:

https://my.dish.com/support/receivers/wally

Height: 1.60"Width: 10.41"Depth: 8.11"

https://www.samsung.com/ca/audio-vid...-player-j5700/

290x39x221 mm >> 11.4173x1.53x8.7 in
Product Dimension(WxHxD)

So the short answer is yes, it would fit.

Greetings,
Sorry - but is a DVD player really needed in 2022?
We have a few Blue-Ray left over but - never use them.
Thoughts on alternative entertainment systems?
E.g. improved WiFI to get streaming services.
Best regards,
