Sams still has the Bose/Okyo System for $357. I liked the receiver because its long and small like a shoe box and fits in the overhead bin above the fridge. I bought a Phillips DVD player, was cheap but has the HDMI output which means only one cable from the DVD to the Vizio. When the TV faces the front Gaucho I can run the audio through the Bose system, but when I turn it around and put it in the bedroom I use the speakers in the TV. Wiring was a pain as I put the subwoofer under the sink and had to run wires under the trailer, but I have great sound and it's almost invisible.

I am looking to hook up a system in my 1970 Ambassador and dont know where to start. I took out the 8 track player and want a system that I can play my iPod through the cabin speakers , as well as mount a TV and have the audio go through the stereo and cabin speakers. I dont know where to start! Do I get a car stereo that plays DVD's as well? What hooks into what? Would really appreciate your guidance.

So Rich, with that system of yours, you can only run it with 110V correct?

Yes only on 110, but the TV was 110 V anyways and with only one battery on the Tradewind always saved the power for lights. The Onkyo reciever was pretty small and fit well in the overhead bin and could close the tambour. My new 06 Safari has the Sony that works off the battery as well, guess that's a good feature but a lot of us have problems with hum in the system mostly due to ground issues and the switchover from DC to AC.

RichHog, Do you boondock and travel off of the grid? I have been thinking through media needs, and thought that a satellite radio would be a great add-on to a system. I have very little reception issues with the sat radio in my truck. Does the system you have provide a plug in for that?

I just upgraded to a current model JVC head unit. It is bluetooth capable, Auxillary input, and has a front USB access port. For 12volt enthusiast, you can purchase USB hard drives in large capacity (250Gig) up to a Terrabite that are plug and play. They don't require 110v to use. They will run off the deck power. You can also plug in the small flash drives. Load them with enough music, you will not hear the same song for weeks. I mention this in comparison to XM or Sirrius satelite radio that requires monthly subscriptions. Reception is sometimes an issue depending on where you are as well. AUX input allows IPOD or MP3 players. I added this unit to existing speakers and is crystal clear. One other note. When making speaker connections, make sure the existing speakers connect to head unit with the + and - respectfully. I initially used the trailer common ground and it identified mis-wired. After reading deep into the directions, it said NOT to connect speaker grounds to the chassis common ground.

The Onkyo receiver has a CD in and an Aux in. You can also get an iPod interface for it but was costly. Haven't moved into the proper definition of boondocking yet just some overnight camping where there isn't any power. Might add that my 72 Tradewind with this unit in it was stolen last Labor Day so my current trailer is the 06 Safari FB25. The Sony unit in it does work off the DC system but the Vizio 23" is AC powered.
