I've been kicking around a project to make a portable iPod player for camping, or backyard BBQ's, etc...
Then on a visit to Sam's club (in Sacramento) a couple of days ago I found just such a gadget, with some great features...this is the info from the Mfgr's site:
BLOCK ROCKER
Sam's sells it for just under $130, haven't checked to see if it's on line with them...you'll notice the Mfg's price is $199...
It has a sealed, lead-acid 7 amp battery (like a home alarm battery) mounted internally that is claimed to run your 'tunes' for up to 12 hours!
The Block Rocker is monaural - but when playing your iPod from one enclosure, stereo probably wouldn't be all that noticeable...in any event this unit has an 8 inch woofer, and a 1 inch tweeter, claiming to be a 22 watt system...it weighs about 44 lbs, hence the handle and wheels come in handy if you have to lug it very far on a solid surface...
It comes with a mic, and multiple inputs along with the iPod connector on the top...
I think it's a nifty tunes player, I've had the chance to play it for several hours and the sound is quite good, with some noticeable 'bass' to boot!
It charges it's battery automatically when plugged into AC, and you can also flick a switch to charge your iPod as well...
I think I'll put some spooky noises on the iPod and hide the BR unit out in the front yard for this week end's 'invaders'... ;D
