New LED Smart TV for 2008 25' FB

Hi All,

We have a new to us 2008 International 25' FB , Queen Bed.

We are looking to replace the older Sony 23" LCD TV with a newer smart LED TV, to save power and also be able to stream when we have WiFi.

This is the TV at the end of the couch, across from the stove, we don't have one in the bedroom.

Anyone with similar model make the change? I've searched the forum, but have not found a similar model.

The current TV is ~22" wide and on a mount that allows it to move from the wall and adjust angle for viewing.

I believe I can get up to maybe 24" wide, which may allow a newer 27" TV. We've had good experience with Samsung at home, but I've found they don't even make LED TV's that small Though they do have a smart monitor that may work, still need to see if that includes a tuner.

anyways, looking for experience from folks with this model AS.
Thanks,
Brian.

I had the same problem putting a TV in our Excella. They used to make more sizes in the LED TVs, but now it seems that they jump from 24" diagonal to a 32" diagonal.

Well, to be honest with you, it seems like a solution in search of a problem — your LCD 24” TV probably draws something like 60 watts and a new LED model should be around 50 watts so not a huge savings.

You can stream your heart out on the old TV with a Fire Stick for a lot less than a new TV.

But, if the primary mission is to upgrade to 27”, well then you need an LG! Mine has been bounced around now for years in two different Airstreams and works just fine.

If you go with a monitor you lose local broadcasts — may or may not be a deal breaker but I like the free 4K…

I upgraded the television in my 23FB to a Vizio 24" smart TV. It works beautifully and it was a very nice upgrade over the LG dumb TV that came from the factory.

I Couldn’t stand my puny 24” tv’s in my 27’ International FB.
So I modified the mount locations and replaced them with two 32” LG’s Smart TV’s
They stick out more than the 24’s but after two days we never noticed that again.
They are just tiny obstacles in our vast Airstream. Two Thumbs Up!!

LCD's draw 2 to 3x the power, as they need backlighting behind each pixel, and then shutter the view off with the LCD, LED's instead only light the LEDs necessary to create the image. That may not be much at home or plugged into shore power, but can add up if you're working from battery and solar

certainly not a solution in search of a problem.

we're both on the clumsy side, concerned we'd end up breaking something. But I am going to take a tape down and see how much overlap we may end up with. I'd also considered possibly storing in a vertical orientation and moving to horizontal only when we want to use it.

thanks for the info.

Excuse me for trying to help. Won’t make that mistake again. Every source I checked showed a 10-30% greater consumption depending on screen size not 2 - 3 times as great so, worst case in a 24” screen would be 15 watts @ 100V…

Dumb question, can you still use a Smart TV to watch OTA and CATV?

Not really a dumb question at all. I got one of these for my Excella:

https://www.bestbuy.com/site/insigni...?skuId=6446230

Really nice smart TV, great price, and it fit the spot well. I got it all set up and was enjoying it very much streaming from the house WiFi. Then I tried to watch OTA television.

It was possible, but it's not totally intuitive. After a phone call to the Insignia tech support (they actually answered quickly) and a little help, I was able to find the setting necessary to watch OTA television with no problem.

Bottom line is that most smart TVs also allow you to watch cable and OTA shows as well. You just need to set up the menu following the instructions and not try to cheat like I did and just plug things in.

yes, the smart TV's I've seen still include the tuner. The smart Monitor I looked at, only support the streaming, and no included tuner

that looks like a nice unit, and very attractive price! I couldn't find the power consumption in the specs - but i've asked Best buy

Thanks! TV is not something I am very experienced with.

It’s not a dumb question. The Vizio that I bought functions as a regular television, allowing us to watch television programs using either cable or the antenna. We virtually never use the cable service provided at some campgrounds, but we occasionally use the antenna. I added smart TV functionality to allow us to stream television programs from services like Netflix. For extended trips, I occasionally download some Netflix shows onto my iPad and stream them to the television. I also like to stream F1 TV to the television during the racing season.

I think the problem is you guys are talking about two different things. LED TVs are actually LCD TVs with an LED backlight, which are a bit more efficient than the former LCD TVs that used a fluorescent backlight. OLED TVs are the ones that do not use a backlight and can be several times more efficient than LCDs, depending on the image being displayed.

I don't understand is your old TV 12V not 120v?
Many TVs have an USB port that can power a Firestick.

smart tv

thanks for getting back.
120 power supply for the current TV passes thru a port in the wall behind the TV. the firestick also requires 120 power. I was hoping that someone had a solution that didn't require dismantling the wall to get to the current source.

Are you saying that the television doesn't just plug into a standard 120v outlet? Could it possibly be running off 12v through a cigarette lighter style 12v outlet?
