Motorola 8 Track

I would like to have a working Motorola 8 Track tape player am/fm head unit for my '76 Excella, does anyone have one they want to get rid of? The radio works in mine but not the 8 trk tape which is what I want to work, could be the motor drive belt, not sure yet, but I thought I'd ask if anyone has one lying around that they have removed and want to get rid of. Thanks!

Ours had one in it when we bought it...and I thought about that space being more useful so we took it out, clipped all the wires and taped them for later upgrades ...I held on to the tape player for a long time...then one day ditched it during a spring cleaning session...and it worked! sorry but you will find a repair for the one you have I bet.

Almost certainly the drive belt. But if you want another one they still turn up at yard sales and thrift stores.

No doubt Ebay has them every week.

We still have the original 8 track in our 1983 Sovereign. Tried several 8 tracks in it last summer and it worked fine. I plan on replacing it this spring. Let me know if other options don't work out for you.

Hey Thanks 310, a little newer model might be good, less use and all, let me know when you are able to pull it, thanks again!

Should be within the next 3 weeks or so. Depends on the weather. I'll let you know.

a new belt and a good cleaning will probably get the player goin. The tapes however will probably need more help...the metalic splice is the weak link and will probably wind your favorite K C and the Sunshine Band 8 track around the spindle. ask me how I know..
Signed,
'still cryin about my John Denver tape'...

Great site , but dangerous . I now have a few hundred tapes waiting for repair. Between them and numerous other projects I am waaaay past running out of storage space.

Thanks All for the Help! And, ESPECIALLY THANKS to 310 Rick for the "new" Motorola 8 track! We wired it up today and it works great. I am in the process of finishing a new cabinet for it now.
One more question, the old unit had a ground humm and this one does as well, does anyone have any simple solutions for isolating the humm?
Thanks again to everyone! This is a great site.
